For those that do not know what it is:

quote:

TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID is a voluntary, faster security screening program allowing eligible travelers to verify their identity at participating airports using facial recognition, removing the need to present a physical ID or boarding pass. Participants must have TSA PreCheck, a valid passport, and opt-in via their airline profile (e.g., Delta, United, American) to use dedicated, faster, hands-free lanes

At MSY, you get in the Precheck line, then there will be a separate turning point and you just walk on through

You have to register in the app of a participating airline

I am registered, but haven't flown yet, I do so in 2 weeks. I told a friend of mine about it a few days ago and he registered and flew yesterday and said it was awesome, he breezed on through. I think it just got activated within the past few days

It saved people significant time in Miami last week. I didn’t even know about it until then so I opted in as soon as I returned home.

Whether it’s faster or not depends on the airport. In ATL, it’s usually faster than regular precheck only on weekends. There’s so many weekday travelers that have it, that during the week, I usually go thru the regular precheck line.

How to use TSA PreCheck when traveling as a family
Generally, children do not need to apply for TSA PreCheck unless they routinely travel alone. When traveling as a family, and the adults have the TSA PreCheck indicator on their boarding pass, children 17 and under are eligible for TSA PreCheck without having their own Known Traveler Number (KTN) by following the guidelines below. Here’s how by age group:

Children 12 and under:

Kids precheck are free
Automatically allowed in the TSA PreCheck lane when traveling with a parent/guardian who has the TSA PreCheck indicator on their boarding pass.

The child’s boarding pass does not need to show the TSA PreCheck indicator.
Children 13 to 17:

May use the TSA PreCheck lane only when the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.
To get the TSA PreCheck indicator on your child’s boarding pass make sure:
the adult and child are on the same airline reservation,
the adult’s boarding pass has the TSA PreCheck indicator.
If the child does not have their own KTN, you should not enter one for the child on the reservation, leave the KTN field blank.
If the child is on a separate airline reservation and doesn’t have their own KTN, they will not be eligible for TSA PreCheck screening.

That's for Precheck, not touchless ID Precheck, which kids cannot use because the requirement for touchless ID is 18 or older.

Funny enough, on Delta I could activate it on kid profiles for whatever that's worth, but AA rejected them due to age.

ETA: well apparently kids can use so that's good

I use it at ORD and it's always quicker than standard PreCheck line. Highly recommend opting in.

MSY has had it for a few months now. I have not had to provide my ID for the last 6 flights I have taken.
