Is Alice in Chains Unplugged the best of that series?

The older I get, the more I genuinely appreciate and love AIC. The little things like Layne's walk to the mic in the beginning, Jerry and the band not being sure he would even show up, all the heartbreaking stories behind the songs. I appreciate Jerry Cantrell's playing more now than I did at their peak. Even the newer stuff is solid - did you know Elton John sang backup vocals and did the piano on one version "Black Gives Way to Blue?"
Just an all-time great moment in live music captured and preserved.

It’s definitely up there but Nirvana still ranks #1 in my opinion.

So good. Pretty cool to see Pat Smear on stage in that one, too.

It’s my favorite. It actually got me obsessed with Alice In Chains. I was late to the party.
Layne was in bad shape for this performance. It’s kind of amazing how well he did.

Big fan of the Nirvana one too, but think I have to give the edge to AIC as they played hits/known songs primarily, whereas Kurt purposely gave the finger to the producers by playing covers/lesser known stuff in the Nirvana set.
Really like the Stone Temple Pilots edition, highly underrated. Maybe my favorite Big Empty version.

I agree 100% It's my favorite as well. Scott Weiland was a true rock icon.

Showing my age, but I really enjoyed the Unplugged episode with Kiss. They showed with acoustics and stools that their songs - both staples and deep cuts - were strong enough to stand on their own without all the pyro and blood spitting and fire breathing. THAT was so much cooler than the idea it paved the way for the first reunion with Ace and Peter.

Pearl Jam's show is a great one too

The Unplugged shows were prime MTV IMHO. It was such a fantastic idea. They proceeded to go from those to slowly shitting the bed by focusing on "reality" shows and lost their purpose, which was music. What an absolute travesty.

Still like the Oasis one where Liam went on multi day bender in the city and Noel had to do all the vocals. Then Liam was just talking shite from the balcony still drunk AF.

Kurt was objectively right. That set was awesome.

Caught them in BR at River Center in 2010; he was ON that night and they came out rippin with Crackerman as they often did, just like in the Unplugged show. Glad I got to see him before he was lost.

For me it's Queensryche, and not really close. Probably the best vocal performance of the series
And they didn't add extra musicians like Nirvana and still sound weak.
Do yourselves a favor and look up the other songs to appreciate the talent in that band.

The "Nutshell" opening is impeccable.
