We are looking to renovate our kitchen island as we don’t like the style, lack of counter space, and have a very open kitchen to accommodate many options. However we’ve just been struggling to get anyone into the door just to even quote us so we know what to budget. Any recommendations for a good dependable contractor that could turnkey demo and remodeling?

Would they demo old island and do countertops as well with new one as well as to put sink and dishwasher in? Or would I have to get different people to do different parts. Just looking at a one stop shop

you'll need a plumber to set the sink and install the DW. Give the specs to them though and they'll design the cabinets to fit. they'll demo existing for you but again you need plumber to disconnect or do it yourself. you'll also need a countertop installer like Menzie Stone (also recommended). you can do this, it isnt complicated.

very unlikely you'll find a good GC to do everything at a price you will be able to live with. plus you'll learn something.

so, call acadian, they'll come out and take measurements and get an idea of what you want. they'll do shop drawings for you to approve. send those shop drawings to Menzie to get countertop options. Pick out your sink and DW and call a plumber.

For your plumbing needs, I recommend either Dennis Martinez (Paradigm Plumbing) or Joel Fisk (Fisk Plumbing).

For countertops, I’ll add Michael Paul’s Natural Stone. Precision work.

My experience with Michael Paul's Natural Stone was fantastic. I'm not saying they are better than Menzie (I have no experience with them), but they are another quality fabricator that should be looked at as well.

I had my kitchen renovated a few years ago by the only contractor who would actually show up for the quote. The quote was somewhat reasonable, lower than what I was expecting, so I went with them. They subbed things out to other contractors but they did the demo and cabinet installation. I'm not giving the name because they don't exist anymore - and the fact that they went out of business is no surprise to me whatsoever. Their painter was caught on my security camera rolling the cabinet doors while I was at work. The cabinet doors had roll marks after it dried, which is what made me go back and look at the cameras. I brought this up to the contractor and he confronted his painters about it, who denied it the entire time until I told them I had it on camera. They sanded them down and repainted them again with a sprayer. Today, three years later, half the doors have paint peeling off and I have to take them off and redo them myself soon.

My contractor constantly had his guys just not show up or get fired so he ended up bringing his fricking dad and a friend of his to fill in for people. This was very unprofessional in my opinion.

The only one who I was decently happy with was Jason Aucoin's Marble Sales in St. Amant, who was tapped to do the new countertop for us. They were the most professional of all of them, though there was a giant scratch on part of the new quartz countertop. Jason came back and fixed it, but you can tell it's not as shiny as the rest of the countertop, though it'll do.

Long story short, the only one I can recommend would be Jason Aucoin's Marble Sales because they were the most professional of all of them, though that bar was set pretty low.

If the general contractor was still in business today, I'd never recommend him.

this is why you don’t hire a GC on such a small job. The good ones don’t want to frick with it and the small ones will be a dude and his dad.

Yea it pissed me off because I could've done exactly what they did for a fraction of the price. I'd have done just as good of a job too, so redoing the cabinet painting would sting less knowing I was the one who fricked it up

I recommend Assured for the countertops

They went above and beyond when they did ours, chasing down a specific slab, etc.

I recommend Kris Built for the island structure, he’s done all our new cabinets. Quick turnaround and attention to detail
