Wife and I are trying to plan our honeymoon in French Polynesia for July. Looking at Bora Bora but open to other islands as well. Trying to do 7-8 nights on a budget of $15k. Mainly looking to relax and do some sort of whale activity (wife loves whales, saw them in cabo last year).

I emailed an agent at tahiti.com about honeymoon packages and told her our budget and expressed interest in staying at either 4 seasons or St Regis for just a few nights. She emailed back saying this wouldnt be possible for our budget. Im guessing because July is their peak season and also because flights are high as shite right now. I emailed back saying we are open to other resorts/islands or would even go down to 1-2 nights on the above mentioned resorts.

So i guess my question is, which resorts/hotels should i be looking at and whats the best itenerary to get the most bang for our buck? Again, mainly looking to relax, eat, drink, and whale activities. Maybe some light exploring.

Side question: i have the Sapphire Reserve card which provides complementary travel agents. I havent used this feature yet and was curious if anybody has had good experiences with them. Have never had to use an agent before but it would be nice to get as most points as possible if we're going to spend this much and im assuming they can help with that.

I haven't been here but I know it's less than a year old due to research, try checking out the Westin Bora Bora.

We went and in 2005 for our honeymoon. I think we stayed 2 nights at the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort in Papeete. The Hotel was nice but the island is mediocre.

Then we took a short flight to Mo'orea and stayed 4-5 nights at the Pearl Resort now called Manava Beach Resort and Spa. This resort was very nice. The island is very nice with lots to offer. One day we rented a moped and toured the island ourselves, one day we did "swim with the dolphins", one day we did a four wheeler excursion and then a Polynisian Dinner and show.

Both resorts we stayed in over water bungalows and loved them. We did not have all inclusive, so food and drinks were very expensive on the island.

I want to say that we probably spent $8-10k 21 years ago. I would think it is about double that now...

Wife (no pics) went last May. Spent first night in Papeete, then we took the ferry from Papeete to Mo'orea and spent 3 nights on Mo'orea at the Hilton in a garden bungalow. We rented a scooter and explored the island each day. Then we flew to Bora Bora for 3 nights and stayed at the Four Seasons Bora Bora in an OTW bungalow. We mostly relaxed at the resort each day, but did do snorkel/swim with sharks excursion, which I'd highly recommend. We did all of this for about your budget, but probably difference of early May vs. July.

Our dates are flexible so maybe we can look into moving to the shoulder seasons to help with the price. I just was shooting for July mainly because that's their driest month but may have to take that chance.

Try Costco Travel for Bora Bora. We used them for the St Regis in 2024. Can't say that it will hit your number but we saved a good bit by buying their package.
