Glen Campbell was a studio musician in Los Angeles for about 4 years before he had his first hit (Gentle On My Mind) as a singer. He was part of the famed Wrecking Crew.
Here he is trading chops with George Benson

Both were great.
Benson was one of the most tasteful guitarists of all time.

Glen's guitar looks like a Tele with an Ovation neck and head. Anyone know what it is?

It's an Ovation Strat copy. Probably custom made.
I've never seen one before.

That’s the Ovation Viper, inspired by the Telecaster
Ovation made them from the late 70s through the early 80s

Pure musicianship for these two. George Benson
is never mentioned when bringing up discussions about the greatest guitarists, but like Jeff Beck, he could "will" his guitar to make the exact sound that he wanted and it flowed out so smoothly without any cracks or seams.

Just recently saw a video of Benson doing Wichita Lineman. Very good.

That thing that Glenn is playing, isn't a viper or inspired by a Telecaster.
It's definitely based on a Stratocaster.
Resembles a CBS era Dan Smith Strat with 2 humbuckers.
Pretty sure it's a custom thing.

You’re right.
It’s the Ovation Ultra GS. Evidently Ovation only made the model for one year, 1984

That probably explains why I've never seen one.
The only other thing is, that video was made in 1976.
Maybe GS stands for Glenn's Strat.

That sounds plausible. Glen is playing a prototype that eventually got rolled out to the public for a year

Took in one of his shows in 1984 at Gammage Auditorium at Arizona State. He was so impressive.
