Let’s recap what happened and why its not full now.

The fact that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) isn't filled is because (a) Democrats blocked funding for it in 2020 during Trump's first term in office, and (b) President Biden drained it in 2021-22 to a 40-year low to lower prices at the pump to buy votes ahead of the midterms, risking national security.

When people complain just remind them of these facts.

Some info on other countries from Grok:

Checked reserves!

Europe (EU): Emergency stocks high (~108M tonnes / ~90 days cover, May '25 data). No releases; stable, no immediate risks per Commission/IEA.

India: 25 days crude + 25 days products (50 total sufficiency). SPR ~39M bbl capacity, mostly full; short-term comfortable.

Japan: 254 days total imports (146 national). Refiners urge release amid 95% ME reliance; gov considering but no plans yet.

China: 1.1-1.3B bbl total stocks (~110 days import cover). Largest buffer, still building.

Russia: Major producer, minimal SPR (no large strategic stocks). Can ramp exports as alt supply.

USA SPR sits at ~415M barrels (~58% full)

Who: Same folks that defunded the Department of Homeland Security.

Why: In furtherance of the slouch toward global marxism.

Great question that no one will have an answer for. Last I read, they were blaming infrastructure condition and possibly improvements

Facts, and not even close to the seriousness of the many things they’ve done in the last 10 years just to gain power.

Democrats hate this country, they tell us that every single day

Has to be paid for by congress. Also keep in mind we are just less than halfway thru Trump admins first budget so 6 months. His first budget year started in Sep 25 but that was delayed due to our worthless politicians.

The day a President takes office is not the day his budget starts. People have no clue how our gov and funding works.

Thank you for the explanation
This should have been a top priority for them when they came in at the beginning of 2025.

This board would know better than anyone.

But I read that US oil output is at an alltime high right now.

And it looks like the reserves are being refilled. But you can only do so much in such little time.

Trump promised to refill it in the 2025 SOTU. Why didn't he? It's still at 60% capacity and we've had record low prices all this time.

He did secure future reserves in Venezuela.

Read my comments. And his comments are a 4 year plan you can’t refill it in 6 months. Also need to see how much was funded.

If we could take all the Somalian and other fraud money that would cover it. Keep that in mind the crooked politicians were funding their illegal projects but not SPR.

I voted for the guy thinking he was going to be better for the oil industry, since I work in it . Looking at the oil prices this evening, I guess I was right

Congress funded all of Trump's budget requests for the SPR yet it was only enough to fill it to 60%.

LINK

It's academic now, the country and the USD is officially toast.

Wasn't smart to do it immediately because prices were still high.

Trump has strategically planned to begin the refill when it gets to around $62.50 a barrel, which we were headed towards until we were forced to hit Iran.

Prices will drop, in a hurry, once we've finished with Iran and secured all the shipping lanes through the Straight of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Exactly. Some people are unable to think long term. All they do is doom and gloom at current day.

Imagine once the constant threat of closing Hormuz is gone forever. Plus we can then start moving assets to the Pacific theater.

Oil is a complex system and prices are worldwide. Anything like this can spike it but there is plenty of oil overall. We cannot let fear of prices prevent getting rid of the terror regime in Iran. No one else took action and Americans died. If one of your family was killed by a roadside bomb or other terror act by Iran you would think different.

It will calm down but will have some more pain first. Patience.

Gas was $5/gallon in some places. People were pissed. Biden opened the spigot on the strategic oil supply to try to bring prices down. Problem was, he caused it all with not renewing oil leases and shutting down pipelines. His administration single handley caused the spike in fuel cost, which increased the cost of everything we buy.

We were energy independent when he took office, and ended up importing oil from Maduro!
