WHO classified the birth control pill as a Group 1 carcinogen

Never heard this on the news...
The World Health Organization has classified the birth control pill as a Group 1 carcinogen, placing it in the same category as known cancer-causing substances like asbestos and tobacco. Group 1 designation means there is strong evidence that the substance can cause cancer in humans under certain conditions.
Experts stress that this classification does not mean all users will develop cancer. The risk is influenced by factors such as duration of use, age, lifestyle, and individual health. For many, the benefits of hormonal contraception—such as regulating periods, reducing risk of certain cancers, and preventing pregnancy—may still outweigh potential risks.
This announcement has sparked global conversations about the safety of hormonal contraceptives, informed decision-making, and the importance of consulting healthcare providers. Understanding both benefits and risks is key to making choices that best support long-term health.

Seems a little more complex than all that.
Correct. The pill actually reduces the risk of certain types of cancers while increasing the risk, slightly, for others.
