Headed to banff for a week in mid June with Mrs jkyle. No kids. Flying WestJet direct Houston to Calgary then renting a car. Got an Airbnb in Canmore. I have never been to the area and have little idea on what to expect other than beautiful scenery. I purchased a gondola ticket and I’ll plan to search AllTrails for some good hikes. For those that have been … any other recs on things I should look to do while in the area ? Also, should I spend any time in Calgary ? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We went several years ago and it is beautiful as advertised. Buy your shuttle bus tickets to Maraine Lake, Lake Louise, etc as soon as you can. Also, plan to start your days early. Even in June it's crowded. There are tons of great hikes but our favorite was hiking up to the Plain of the Six Glaciers Tea House.

Thanks again. I’m going in kinda expecting a little less impressive version of Switzerland which was the best trip I’ve ever taken.

Don’t miss Peyto Lake overlook, Lake Louise, Johnstons Canyon. Calgary is okay if the Calgary Stampede is going on.

May not have time with only a week but if possible I would take the Iceline parkway up to Jasper and enjoy a few days in Jasper. The parkway up is amazing scenery. Stop on the way and hike out onto one of the glaciers. Hike Maligne canyon and other trails in Jasper. While in banff don’t miss the Eiffel Lake trail, for the valley of ten peaks. Gorgeous views.

You must go to the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Go have a cocktail, dinner, and maybe even take the tour. It’s a stunning place, stayed there around 20 years ago.

Highly recommend looking up the Canada Icefields Parkway that goes up to Jasper. It's been a number of years, but I believe we drove up and stayed one night in Jasper. If I recall correctly, there was a visitors center where you could see multiple glaciers from one location and they had buses bring you right up to one of them.

If nothing else, figure out how far up the parkway you can day trip and try to catch a few of the stops along the way.

Not sure which Gondola you have planned, but look at Sunshine village. The lodge is up on the mountain. I know you have an air bnb, but doing the gondola up, spending the night, leaving the next day would probably give you a wonderful experience. In the winter you can actually “ski-out”. Possibly can “hike out” in Summer.
As others gate said, drive the rental to the fairmount lake Louise. It’s not a bad drive. Though crowds could be an issue. Consider the same thing there, get a room for a night, though I am sure it’s expensive so may be out of budget.
This will chew up 4 days round trip, fill in the other 3 with relaxation or trail close to your bnb. Banff is a quaint little village, a unique experience to walk around that will probably happen organically, but hard to recommend a dedicated “day” in the village unless you need a break as you are committing to a fair amount of travel time.
Hopefully the glacier will still be there, :lol

Drive over to Yoho National Park, about an hour west from Banff. Main attraction is a very famous fossil quarry high on a ridgeline, the Burgess Shale. You book a guided hike well in advance via Parks Canada or the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation. It's about 14 miles rt over steep terrain. While in that area book a whitewater raft trip on the Kicking Horse River...serious rapids.

Calgary itself is an oil town with a nice selection of museums and restaurants...things that higher incomes generate.
