the drummer at this game was one of my good friends.

he sounded fine to me. it does sound a little awkward, but that is b/c of the set up they have for basketball games...and it's always been that way.

I guess I should have been more specific...I wasnt trying to down your buddy, you are right they all sound like that....I am just wondering if the director makes them play the weird arse beats

It's always sounded weird. Idk why, but I have always felt the same way. It doesn't sound great...however, I don't its bc he's a bad drummer

I am sure he is not....probably just a little out of his element...wish they would just let him take control and do the beats he wants....seems like they all play the same way which leads me to believe its the director

You people are used to listening to a drum line play these songs.....lines always sound better than set on songs like they play. Although some of the set players that I played with in bengal brass could stand to come to the realization that the drums are there mainly to keep the beat not be the star. Thats what trumpets are for

The drummer tries to emulate what the drumline does for Tiger Band. The other instruments are used to hearing certain beats and offbeats, so they may sound a little quirky on a drumset. During fills they will throw in their own shite though.

I have heard a lot of college pep bands over thelast 35+ years. They are not going to sound like the college's marching band. So yes, they are going to be a little different in sounding. Also, when you have one drummer, he/she is trying to do this type of music on a trap set. Sometimes it works like a charm and some of the music gets a little awkward. I was at the game tonight, and thought the pep band as well as it's drummer sounded pretty decent. A little of my background includes my being a drummer before switching instruments, and my son currently being a drummer for another college marching band/pep band.
