Does anyone use these? Are they decent? Thanks.

I get my scallops from Primefish, they're the best I've found but they're expensive. Most frozen scallops are wet packed with phosphates that ruin any chance of a good sear. Primefish's are dry packed

Have used them to add to crawfish boils. Really good for that. Usually get the big bag from Costco.

I would think most if not all that you buy in a store have been previously frozen.

How do you know if they are dry packed?

Look to make sure there are no phopshates in the ingredient list.

Primefish explicitly states
quote:

Ultra-premium grade "dry" scallops that ship flash frozen in 1lb bags.

I have a craving for them tonight. If the ingredients simply list the scallop, then I can assume it was dry packed? Thanks.

When you kill the fire. At the point where some people throw in ice.

I will be trying this when I can afford to boil some crawfish. Lol They would have to be really tasty coming out of that season of water.

A bag of diver scallops at Costco seems to be around $40, so the crawfish might be cheaper

I have gotten the frozen bag scallops twice and both times I couldn’t eat them.

I usually don’t get off-put by stuff like that but for some reason whether it was coincidence or mental I just found them extremely fishy smelling. We eat scallops from the seafood case often and I’m sure it’s the same product

I know it's just me, but I read the thread title to the tune of "Pulling mussels (from the shell)"

Sam's. Pan saute with a splash of dry sherry in butter. Fantastic.

Scallops are extremely perishable and are almost always distributed frozen and thawed for market display. Buying frozen yourself will probably get you better product. In BTR, Calandros and Maxwells often have large frozen bags "in the back freezer" and will sell you a few on request. There are lots of sea scallops imported, but they are usually good quality.

Interesting. I have to avoid phosphates or phosphoric acid in all foods. I didn't think to check frozen seafood.

Just when i thought I’d heard it all. But this sounds great. A good protein is always welcome. Will have to remember.
