This is an AI generated image.

If I put a desk in the center of a room like this and wanted a TV mounted on the wall — hidden behind cabinet doors — what’s the best way to connect it to Apple devices like a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac mini?

I know some TVs have Apple AirPlay built in, and that works fine for streaming movies.

I’m assuming I’d need to run a long HDMI cable from the TV wall to the center of the room, where I’m planning to have floor outlets at the desk.

Would installing Smurf tube (flexible conduit) before the concrete is poured be the best way to handle that — so I have a clean, future-proof path for HDMI or any other cables I might need later?

After posting my question, I looked for solutions on ChatGPT.

They suggested this:

quote:

Mac Mini Hidden in Cabinet

If this is more of a study/media setup:

Put a Mac mini inside the TV cabinet

Hardwire it to the TV (short HDMI)

Then access it from your desk using:

Bluetooth keyboard/mouse

Or remote desktop from your MacBook

Super clean. No long HDMI runs needed.

This sounds simpler -- any issues?

I have a fairly similar setup (Mounted TV, Mac mini connected via HDMI).

I've had it configured a few ways, but the form factor of the mini (+wireless keyboard/mouse) made it easy to just mount it in the cabinet, behind the TV.

After about 20 feet I wouldn't trust a 4k hdmi signal, you'd have to use something active like cat6.

The remote access thru the mac mini is the way to go.

Second option would be hdmi over cat6. You would need a converter to go from the HDMI out to the cat6 wire and back again.

If this is pre-construction and you'll have power out to the center, then you might as well run two copper ethernet and two HDMI.

We run this in our pizza place. It works really well to move via Cat6. Can sync multiple tvs if needed.
