It's most easily explained, that it's still located in the PNW, and as a result we do have a sizeable group of people you'd expect to find in Seattle and Portland. Not enough to do much politically, outside of their rallies.
Boise metro has 1 million people and is pretty dark red but has some deep blue areas, particularly around downtown, with a lot of wealth from tech/medicine.
A lot of the leftism in the area is a deep resentment for Idaho politics and victim mentality that stems from it. A lot of the most vocal adherents are the typical, below 100 IQ nobodies that latch on to the Bernie sanders' of the world. Bernie and AOC did a rally at a 10k seat arena last year and it was full of green haired white women and soft men. It's still Idaho, but these people live everywhere.
