Looking for a place to bring my son next season for his 12th birthday. It’s $700/day to hunt and that includes lodging and meals and the only restriction is a 13” main beam. It’s only 4 hours away which caught my attention. I’ve been looking at places in Texas but really don’t want to drive 9-10 hours. Anyone know of a good place within 5 hours of SE La to get a kid on a buck. Not looking for a trophy, just want to break the ice. TIA

Jachin, Alabama. Hunted there about 35+ years ago. Nice outfit. Food was great. Tons of land, well set up for a pay to play. Lots of opportunity, especially for novice hunters. Mr Leo and Mr Johnny were very nice gentleman. Shot my first doe and buck there. They went heavy on the 1st deer blood thing.

I’m sure Mr Scout and the kitchen ladies have passed on. But they took good care of me as a young fella.

I think it worth making that run to Texas. I go out to Hondo every year.

They offer a 2 day hunt(4 sits). There’s a couple other places in that general area that offer the same. They also allow 2 bucks

Ha! We may be the same person. This was my exact experience, early 1990s. Scout was my guide also. I heard that he passsed away quite a few years ago. Bulldozed a button buck at 30 yards with a 30-06 for my first deer. I returned there just one other time, either the next year or year after.

Bonus: Remington had some ammo research guys there at the same time, testing new loads. I left there with a box of 12 ga. slugs and some 140gr, 270win extended range.

I’d guess we went there around 1989 to 1991 or so. Scout drove us to our stands in an old 4wd Bronco. Nice man. He’s drive through an area and point stuff out and talk in a deep slow voice. He knew every deer on that property. I layed over a 95 lb doe for my 1st kill ever. Then the next year I shot a 4pt. Then the next year an 6pt. All close shots with a 300 win mag. They were well set up for up close & personal shots. I do t know why I haven’t gone back all these years. I may do that next season.
