Described as someone who dressed like a "dainty" and was prone to bouts of "melancholy".

Does this sound like the kind of guy to go on one of the most daunting tasks of exploration known at the time?

I mean he was the long time young personal assistant of Jefferson...........

Still one of the most well known murder mysteries in history. I've been by the monument on the Natchez Trace.

What a comforting shame we don't experience the ravages of malaria and venereal diseases in our modern society. Most of those on the expedition did though. Humans react in different ways. Lewis became acclaimed and most likely had access to drugs that most today would considered very dangerous and addictive. His life took a very bad turn and I believe it was due to these reasons. Very sad story ending for him but it does not diminish his accomplishments.

Armchair historians, like YOU, are usually focused on one or two data points and ignore the major accomplishments of the subject.

The Lewis and Clark expedition opened the West to further expansion.

Whatever Lewis may have been personally, professionally he accomplished great things.

But, you can continue to pick the fly shite out of the pepper if it makes you feel less inferior.

Those two things have nothing to do with each other.

Hey dumb arse, Ive read books, watched documentaries, even read the lengthy book journal of the expedition. I know far more about the subject than you, and far more well read.....considering you are a product of the Louisiana school system and can barely read.

My point is, there were literally hundreds of persons more qualified than Lewis, and his only distinguishing accomplishment was his relationship with Jefferson as a young man, hmmmm. He was a failure, he went days with writing nothing in his journal, ALL the cartography was by Clark. Clark managed the men and the logistics. When Lewis returned it took years for him to assimilate his journal which he never completed.

Jefferson himself distanced himself from Lewis.

I think we call well discern he was a manic depressive at best and at worst, well lets leave it at that.

But dont you dare assume you know more than your betters.

then why bring up Hemmings?

I believe you attempted to infer that he was gay because it was dainty and melancholy and that he shared an undefined relationship with TJ

You're gay

have you explored the untamed West?

I'm not sure what the problem is. TJ liked black girls and white boys. He was a wild man. He wasn't like normal men - he was androgynous and copasetic.

One thing we know for sure - he knew how to keep his bitches in line.

Probably our First Black President.
