Just had the American pair put up a big score in the Team Free Skate - Pairs. But a boost for USA since they’re the “weakest link” in the team event.

Will have the Men and Women’s Free Skate after this.

So is the team from “Georgia” really just the Russian team in disguise? Seems like they were all born in Russia and only moved to Georgia in the last three years, after the invasion of Ukraine. Can’t wait to see the “Georgian” hockey team!

The male in the pair was competing for Georgia in the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics. He’s never represented Russia. The female paired with him later on.

From an interview with him:

quote:

Berulava stated that “I was born in Moscow because my family had to leave Georgia during the war, but we always spoke Georgian at home. It’s my first language.”

Makes sense.

Glenn missed on one of her elements and finishes 3rd in the individual (both the Georgian and Japanese skaters were pretty perfect in their programs).

Going to come down to the Men’s Skate to see who wins.

USA - 59
Japan - 59
Italy - 52
Georgia - 50
Canada - 47

Posted this in the other thread.

I don't understand how the American is the only one that even attempted a triple axle, lands it, though a little awkward, yet gets third. Don't you get rewarded for difficulty?

Quad God will need to show up and win it for Team USA.

So landing it helped her from dropping further but she missed a technical combo that would’ve probably put her in 2nd.

Maybe it's just me, but the scores for the Japanese skaters seem a bit inflated.

They’re really good artistically. And very technically sound. They basically work all the bonuses you can get on the standard elements.

Johnny Weir just said he read a social media comment that all of the men are dressed up as sparkly Vecnas (Stranger Things). And he’s not wrong.

Georgian skater has had some mistakes and is skating tight. Bodes well for Italy or Canada for that bronze medal.

Italian (Rizzo) with a gorgeous, clean skate. Pretty much secures a medal for Italy.

ETA: Italy only has two other medals in the sport. So a big, big deal for them. Good for the home country.

He re-added elements mid stream that he missed earlier in the skate. Holy moly. Dude is insane.

Not necessarily. Malinin has so many big elements he’s that much higher technically it makes it very tough to beat him even not as his best.

Getting that score after that big of a mess up just shows how difficult his routine is. Insane performance even with the slight fall

So the element he missed when he fell he added back in late in the program and nailed it.

Japanese skater literally can’t make a mistake. He’s never scored 200 before.

This (and their clothing) are why I love Johnny and Tara!

During another broadcast he was talking about the avant garde and couture and comparing the pairs ice dancers to fashion. My 38 year old son texted me and his wife...What the hell is he talking about?!?! I told him I learned that on Project Runway and America's Next Top Model.
