What’s the worst Vanguard fund?

Between August 2024 and March 2025, I contributed $5k to Vanguard’s REIT fund. After 18 months it’s up to $5,055 including the 2% distributions.
I’m inclined to believe I managed to fall into the worst find they offer.

Don't know about their worst, but VGT is their best.

VGT is their best?
I would say these are all better than VGT:
VOO
VXUS
VUG
VFIAX

I was putting in money every month into VGT for close to a year. Need to get back on it.

You must not have been paying attention in class.
How did it perform vs other REIT funds?

The point of my post is they sell themselves as a company that offers competitive funds with the lowest fees. They even prohibit customers from trading inverse or leveraged funds.
You’d think it would be in their best interest to just close any fund that consistently returns less than 1%/yr.

I think that’s why it’s so awful. Half the fund is in the generic REIT index. The managed half includes companies that are actually performing well. Apparently not, well enough to counteract the index as a whole.

Any bond fund has been a disaster

I have questioned the real benefit of REITs. I don’t know there is enough negative correlation to equities to make it worth while.
Residential or commercial real estate or syndications/private equity are real ways to diversify the portfolio.

Why would they close a fund that does exactly what they said it is supposed to do?

What was your reason for choosing a REIT fund originally? It should have been obvious that it wasn't going to match the broad market over the long term.
