Someone explain to me Trump's play here. The other thread was saying this is all a ploy by MAGA.
Thune is a cockroach.

85% of the electorate support voter ID for federal elections.
That includes 71% of Democrats.
Thune is fricking useless.

Newt was the last actually effective republican leader in Congress.

I wonder who is lobbying Thune and the GOP to tank the SAVE Act? They have deep pockets apparently and voting without ID is central to their power and/or money. But who are these people lobbying the Senate to tank this highly popular legislation?

This is why midterms are irrelevant, win or lose. Nobody wants to vote and support these worthless congressmen who already don’t do anything.

Have yall put your fingers to good use today? I have. I just finished sending Senator's Kennedy and Cassidy and the coward Thune emails.

I asked Grok who is lobbying Thune to tank the SAVE Act and this is what AI came up with:
Apparently these are the groups driving Thune to tank the SAVE Act.
He listens to them.

These organizations have issued public letters, action alerts, and statements urging lawmakers to vote against the bill. Many are part of broader coalitions and have lobbied Congress directly through communications, scorecards (e.g., tracking votes for future advocacy), and grassroots mobilization. They often frame the SAVE Act as voter suppression rather than election security.
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights: A coalition of over 240 national organizations (including the NAACP, ACLU, and others). They sent a letter signed by 111 groups opposing H.R. 22, calling it a "shameful, divisive attempt" to restrict voting access, especially for voters of color, Latinos, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. They intend to score votes on the bill in their congressional voting record, which influences endorsements and funding for campaigns.
Brennan Center for Justice: Described the SAVE Act as "the worst voting bill to be passed by Congress in memory," warning it could block millions from voting without solving any real issue, as noncitizen voting is already rare and illegal. They've lobbied via letters to Congress and public reports.
League of Women Voters: Urged senators to reject the bill, emphasizing that it disrupts established voter registration processes (e.g., online, mail-in, or drives) and adds burdens despite existing safeguards against noncitizen voting.
Issue One: A bipartisan group that organized nearly 60 election officials (including Republican and Democratic secretaries of state like Michigan's Jocelyn Benson and Nevada's Cisco Aguilar) to oppose it. They called it a "recipe for chaos" with unfunded mandates and legal risks for election administrators.
APIAVote (Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote): Highlighted disproportionate impacts on AAPI communities and other communities of color, urging opposition to protect democratic participation.
Voters Not Politicians: A Michigan-based group focused on anti-voter suppression efforts; they've organized rallies and grassroots lobbying against the SAVE Act as part of broader voter rights campaigns.
Nonprofit VOTE: Called it a "wrong solution for a non-problem" and mobilized action alerts to senators, arguing it harms voters across parties but especially rural, Native, and voters of color.
5 Calls: An activist platform that tracks and opposes the bill as "extreme anti-voter" legislation, noting updates on lobbying efforts by Trump, Elon Musk, and House Republicans to push it forward despite Senate hurdles.
Other groups mentioned in coalition letters include the NAACP, MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), and various state-level voting rights organizations.
Apparently these are the groups driving Thune to tank the SAVE Act.
He listens to them.

Why would John Cornyn be against the Save Act?
I cannot stand these useless mother frickers.

It's completely baffling. With 85% support, this is low hanging fruit. Its easy. The Senators can take this back to their states in townhall meetings and get applause instead of boos and hisses, even John Cornyn.

Yet another example that if you are a legal, honest tax paying American citizen you are no longer being represented by Congress, whether it be R or D. We have been sold out and abandoned by the people who are supposed to represent us

Swamp politicians gonna' swamp politician.
At this point, it's clear Thune and the GOPe cabal want Democrats to take the House in the mid-terms... via illegal alien votes.

Thune was a lobbyist himself prior to being Senate Majority Leader.

I view politics through the lens that politicians will pass popular legislation.
That assumption is completely wrong.

There is not one Dem that will break party lines for this and their constituents will forget come November.
And Cornyn and Cassidy will not vote with republicans, not to mention the three old bags that swing with the left.

They arent' driving shite. The uniparty and never-Trumpers are driving that. They want to cheat and steal the mid-terms to get a Dem majority in the House. That would be the ultimate obstruction of Trump for the remainder of his term. That's all that's about. That was the whole reason Thune was installed as Senate GOPe Majority Leader in place of the decript, dying Turtle.
