It’s not going to be what you think…the novel is about teenage love and Robbie, while hot as frick, is two decades too old for this part.

My expectations are very low for this.

Yep. Heathcliff and Cathy are teenagers in the novel. This looks to be a highly sexualized take on the source material with two people who, despite both being great actors, are way too old for the parts they’re playing.

Yall are probably right about this one. I’ve been reading some early reviews. Comparing it to Saltburn (same Director). I hated Saltburn. Oh well.

I’m curious because Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite books and Emerald Fennell is an interesting director, though I didn’t love Saltburn. I don’t have high expectations.

My expectations are also low, but that has everything to do with Fennell. Buying to do with the ages of the actors.

And a highly sexualized take should have older characters.

Highly sexualized and Margot Robbie, sounds like a masterpiece!

There's a good reason the Wuthering Heights is in quotation marks.

This is going to be a hot arse, loose adaptation mess.

On the upside, I have seen a lot of folks decide to pick up the novel and I can't really hate on too much something that spurs folks to actually read classic content.

Still holding out one day we might get a page for page adaptation, but alas. No dice.

They do start out as children in this movie. The over sexualizing happens when they are older.
I read it’s loosely based on the novel so I hope they don’t completely ruin the story line.
I don’t might their real age difference just as long as it looks reasonable

No, this does not look good. It looks like a travesty.

This is from Fennell's interview with People:

quote:

Whether or not Fennell’s version of the classic novel will stay true to the original story remains to be seen. However, the film’s casting director told Deadline in April 2025 that there are “definitely going to be some English Lit fans that are not going to be happy” with the new interpretation.

“Wait until you see the set design because that is even more shocking,” Kharmel Cochrane told the outlet. “And there may or may not be a dog collar in it.”

Have no desire to watch or read any of those. But I do like Wuthering Heights ok and this looks like they are making it a combo of WH and 50 Shades of Grey.

Just looks like they're marketing soft porn with Elordi and Robbie. Even rumors of something between them off camera seems like a ploy

Another unnecessary remake I would think,
The original is a classic..,

How many times are they going to remake this?
And Cathy is dead for 2/3 of the novel. The book is mainly about how awful HeathCliff treats Cathy's relatives.

Innumerable times. Who cares? There's basically been one every 5-10 years since Wyler's version in 1939. And guess what? Several of them are good. Bunuel made a good one in the 50s. Jacques Rivette made a good weird one in the 80s. The one in 2011, which is the most recent adaptation I'm aware of, was fascinating.

Those versions are all different. This new one doesn't look great to me, but it also doesn't look like any previous versions.
