We're all hoping he follows the Kade Anderson development route and their freshman seasons somewhat resembled each other. But last year at this time we were hearing Andersons name being mentioned constantly for the Friday night spot. Any word on how his progress is coming along?

He showed bad posture on the mound last year.. His shoulders were always
Bent over..

Hopefully, he'll bow his chest out and be a leader..
But so far I think he's overrated

I'm guessing he will throw today
Role TBD
May see him get some midweek starts and will see how he impacts SEC weekends

#1 Evans
#2 Moore
#3 Williams Cowan Noot Schmidt will all be in the mix

Met him at the First pitch banquet. He said he has put on 15 lbs of muscle. He feels much better about his command now as he did this time last year. Being in the program for a year has paid dividends. He hopes to compete for a weekend role.

He is very much in the mix to win a weekend starter role. Don’t be surprised to see him start Sunday on thr first weekend (Evans - Fri; Moore - Sat; Schmidt - Sun). The question is will he be able to stay pitching as a weekend starter all season.

Pulling for him, it was all about command
He'd get behind then have to groove one

I am expecting Casan Evans to be the Friday guy. I like Schmidt, but he has a long way to go to bump Evans.

He was a true freshman. The stuff he had showed why he was rated so highly, and it's not like he put up performances like Cam Johnson in 2024.

It's far too early to be calling him overrated.

The difference is Anderson had shown greatness the prior year (selu game). Schmidt has yet to show that even against inferior opponents

Not hitting his spots today. Couple hitters bailed him out this past inning. Gave up a run.

5 walks in 3 innings today. One of the innings stopped by Jay before 3 outs

Jesus, cut the kid some slack. He was fresh out of high school last year. Short term memory for some, but he was really good as the mid week starter early in the season. Jay commented something like “I think that’s the last you will see of Schmidt mid week” as they entered SEC play. Obviously he walked too many and couldn’t get out of jams against the SEC schools but he flashed.

It’s all between the ears because he has the physical tools. Give him a chance this season before railing on him.
