Definitely thinking about installing one and need some thought other than my own.
Looking at Range Technology DFM Module GM Refresh Part # RA007.
TIA

I have that exact one and it is working fine. Actually bought it used. I heard the cheaper ones work well also. Using it on a Yukon.

I’ve had a Range technology for 6 years and it’s been great.

If you're spending the $ why not get a custom tune to disable it?
Or put an actual tuner on so you can monitor, tweak etc. Will disable AFM, and get some better mpg and power if you can keep your foot out.

The only issue with doing this is my truck is under warranty and we all know they look for anything they can to tell you you voided the warranty. With the DFM disabler, I unplug it and no harm no foul.
Appreciate the comments.

Well- if its under warranty I'd leave it alone.
Realistically is it an issue? Yes. But the internet makes it seem so much worse than it is. Source- friend who has worked for GM for 30 plus years in Michigan.
These motors the biggest thing- is maintenance. If you do all of your oil changes, etc on time, and use quality synthetic. It really lessens the chances. My 6.2 went 200k before it dropped a valve seat- now- deleted everything, tuned, no cats, upgraded cam. It is a monster.

Yeah that's one thought BUT if it's truly an issue then I'd like to eliminate the issue so it never rears its ugly head.

Probably

OK decided to just use the L9 hack at least for the time being.

This. Neither of my 5.3 engines had any issues over 200K miles. I looked at disabling AFM but decided it was likely best to leave it alone.
I think the concern is overblown and money should be saved for the eventual transmission replacement

100% agree. I've talked to a bunch of people about it last several years. Trans going bye bye is another issue haha.

Tell that to my brand new 1500 with less than 20k miles that dropped an entire row of cylinders due to deactivation while doing 55 mph. Oil changed every 5k miles and never beaten on.
It's been 3 months and I still don't have a truck.

What year is it? The trucks I'm talking about are 2007-2018 ish- all though the 8 speed is another animal full of its own gremlins. Their are a lot of changes since 2019- the newer ones are a completely different animal.
They changed tolerance, specs, etc. Switched to thinner oil, trying to squeeze out more mpg from them.
The results have been catastrophic. Dealers literally won't even sell the new 6.2 trucks.

Yeah, my 2021 is used but when I went to change the oil and saw they switch to 0w-20, I just used 5w-30. I figure it’s worked for the last two just fine, and GM started recommending higher vis oil for the 6.2 when they issued their recall.

Yep. Buddy at GM recommends the same.
Full rebuild and delete is different than AFM disable for longevity.
Now- after driving my built 6.2- my future plan is a 10 speed Yukon XL with the 6.2. And I'll have the same guy do my motor, delete AFM and VVT, upgrade cam, delete cats, custom tune.

Tried the Range dongle recently, city driving mpg dropped by almost half to 10-12 mpg. Engine seemed to run too rich at morning startup. What got me thinking is the solenoids that control the AFM system use engine oil as hydraulic fluid. If not activated for a long period they may fail. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I’ve always done the severe service maintenance schedule, removed the Range and am rolling the dice. 2016 Sierra with only 40k miles bought new, my lightly used fishing truck, partner always wants to take his Tacoma.
I’ve seen people have good results with the Range and other devices but the sure cure is a complete delete. Expensive. Rumor is GMC is removing AFM on new engines going forward. If that happens I’ll get a new one.

a gm mechanic told me the most failures that they see on the 6.2 is immediately after an oil change
