Easy to doom and gloom right now but we will be back. Just need the right coach to do it. LSU basketball played a fundamental role in my childhood and no one should give up hope. Verge made the perfect hire for football and there was a lot of pressure on him to do so. We just need a homerun MBB coaching hire and basketball can take off again.

Crazy how far we have fallen. Used to be fun to go to the PMAC

McMahon just needs a better backup PG next year

Some people on here try and act like LSU basketball doesn't have a rich history and things to build off of, but nothing could be further from the truth. Do we have the national championships? Obviously not. A ton of final fours? No, but neither do many other program. However, that doesn't mean LSU basketball doesn't have a rich history. Some of the greatest basketball players to EVER play the game played their collegiate ball at LSU.
And we have damn good fans who will support it if we're winning or even just have a coach that shows some potential and gets the fans excited. We've always had that. So don't listen to the idiots when they say LSU fans don't care about basketball. It's simply not true and it's just said by them as another defense of McMahon's terrible tenure here.
The McMahon hire has been terrible and has killed any interest around his teams/program. We essentially gave ourselves the death penalty by hiring him and giving him such a long contract. That said, make the right hire and get things back on track and all that will come back quickly. People love a winner.

1 million percent and they’re the same people that will be back on the bandwagon when we start winning again.

Well said. Wish I could give you more than 1 upvote. I cannot understand the apathy when it comes to men’s basketball. Such an exciting sport with great potential at a place like LSU. I know, I know. It’s a football school. Not so long ago it wasn’t a baseball school but look now. It CAN also be a basketball school. They’re not mutually exclusive.

Our coach is 5-2 in the ACC

Did we fire John Brady during the 2008 season? If you look at that 2006 schedule, lsu lost 4 out of 6 entering SEC play. Every loss was by 4 points or less .

How did he do in the 3 previous seasons? I last saw he was 56-56 at LSU. Is it worse now?

To your point, LSU was basically a basketball school in the mid-to-late 80s and early 90s because of how bad the football program was. Basketball games used to be THE ticket in town. Hopefully, we can get back to all 3 main sports being good again. As you said, the potential is definitely there.

Auburn is a football school.
Florida is a football school.
Alabama is a football school.
Auburn has been to 2 Final Fours in recent times. Florida just won the national title last year, went back to back in 2006-07, and have been relevant for the past 25 years. Alabama has been on a roll since they hired Nate Oats. LSU has to get a coach that’ll come in here and ignite the fan base and put a winning product on the court consistently. If you build it then damnit they will come.

The best run of LSU basketball was 1979-1981. And it isnt even close.
Rudy Macklin, Ethan Martin, Greg Cook, Howard Carter, Willie Sims and Jordy Hultberg all played 4 years. Lionel Green, Al Green and even Dwayne Scales (the most talented player LSU had in the stretch between Maravich and Chris Jackson) stayed for two plus years.
A sweet 16, an elite 8, and a final four, with all tournament losses to the eventual national champion. 35-9 over that stretch in SEC games.
As a12 yr old kid, I wanted to be Al Green so damn bad, I ditched the two wristband Dewayne Scales look, to the single wristband style of Al Green.
