I played the first three Silent Hill games many years ago and loved all of them. Very niche psychological horror series that is heavily story based with lots of metaphors sprinkled into it.

Never played the remake but I’ve seen that they significantly changed the gameplay style compared to the original games which featured tank controls. How does the remake compare to them?

Smash BUY. Game is great. The prison + labyrinth sections are slogs for sure. Just use a guide to get through them quick if it feels like theyre overstaying their welcome. The enemy types also are very limited. Otherwise, it is a really great experience start to finish.

Play with headphones. Be scared shitless. Enjoy the ride!

Silent Hill 2 is a great remake, but the price is pretty steep for the type of game it is for sure. If you're on PC, if the game isn't on sale I would go to G2A or one of those other sites and get a CD key that activates on steam for less than 40 bucks.

I was just about to say this. Based on what I’ve seen from gameplay videos, it seems like they had a very modest development budget which held back certain aspects of gameplay

The game is over a year old and yet still has a $40 to $50 price tag? Wow

It's been free with PS Plus for months now, if you happen to have that.

They did a good job with it, and the new Silent Hill f is also very good.

I never played the original but I thoroughly enjoyed the remake.

It can drag at a few points, combat and enemy variety can be a little wanting, but the overall setting and premise carry it strongly the whole way, IMO.

The voice actor for James does an incredible job.

Get it. It's a well made game with some great art design, a better than expected combat system, an amazing performance from the lead, and it's true to the spirit of the original. Only knock is that it's ridiculously padded. Almost every section goes on 50% longer than it needs to.

Disagree here, I 100%'d it with all endings and thought it was terrible. It felt nothing like SH and was essentially an action game with the hundreds of enemies you mow down.

The endless enemies were the weakest part of Silent Hill f, detracting from the atmosphere. I heard they actually reduced the number, a while after I'd finished the game.

But despite that I thought it was an interesting story and had nice tension.

I hope they did a good job with that Fatal Frame remake that's about to come out.
