Hello Pirate Filth,
This is the campaign thread for a text based pirate borg campaign.
What’s pirate borg?
Per google:
Sign up below. To start things off, looking for 4-8 players to be on a pirate crew. Give me a pirate name and what you do in the crew. Feel free to add any fluff about yourself. Once we get to 8 people or if this drops to page 2, I will update with further instructions
Starring
Mr Savage - Toothless Garm
Fat Kid - Rotgut the Fat

Aye! The names Tongueless Garm.
I used to be one of the greatest singers of the seas. Most say I lost my tongue after running it a few too many times among the lads of a former ship, but most would be wrong. In fact, I traded it to a sea hag for an unspecified cost for the ability to write the most beautiful, haunting songs of the ocean that now I will now never be able to sing. I hate irony. Mighty fine poet though, and not too bad with a lute after a drink. Keeps the crew's spirits up.
I have found use as a cook, though I am learning as I go. Once the food is served, I like to make sure the lads enjoy their spoils with songs and revelry.

Can I put our stuff in later on tonight. I am at work right now and I want to let my gal write hers?

Sure, I will save a place for you

Also I dont think you saw my question
Can our characters be evil?
Can our characters be evil?

Hmm… yes… to a point. I will push back if I get to feeling it’s going too far. True evil is probably going too far.
None of the pirates are “good” people. But this is a casual social game in a group of people playing a black comedy.
Being a murder hobo at the expense of the group or just throwing dark shite out into the universe I will be more willing to push back on.

This is Athen's game of course but as a general rule with table top games, you don't typically want direct player vs player motives as it can lead to one side or the other getting negatively impacted and can ruin the experience. A good character is that with motives, flaws, as maybe "gray" in morality somewhere between good and bad, lawful and chaotic, etc.
Think about your favorite movies and characters. Hans Solo is a great example of a neutral character. He's a smuggler, lone wolf type but finds ways to do good with his bad habits.
Even "bad" characters can come together to oppose true evil. Think Suicide Squad or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. X-men has examples of this with Magneto teaming up because of society hunting mutants is a greater threat than other mutants themselves.
Just my two cents as someone who runs table top games.

All good, asking questions is all a part of it. I’m not an experienced GM though so I want to be a bit cautious. In a more traditions first, we would do a session zero where we focus in on questions and expectations. But it’s fine for us to discuss things.

Great points!
I really think the sweet spot for this is closest to Pirates of the Caribbean.
Here’s some art from the rule book to help get people in the mood

That art is fantastic
Thanks for the help as well as savage above. My TA is covering my classes tomorrow so we are going to stay up tonight and write out our character sheets and stuff together. Should i post them in this thread when we are done or send it to you privately?

I think creating characters is a lot of fun. All for it. Feel free to post whatever you want. But don’t think it’s necessarily required for this here. Like I don’t need classes or stats or anything at least as of now.
I may add some more complexity to it. But at first, I’m going to ask for some very narrative heavy descriptions with some rolling for passes and fails and such.
But I hadn’t really planned to do classes or anything. Not trying to be very rules heavy with this. Just fun story telling

Need a name and what job you do for the crew
Posted on 1/19/26 at 8:51 pm to athenslife101
Pirates are the best.
Crusader or Bitter Blackleg. I'm here to clean up stupid decisions made by the rest of the crew, either through force or sarcasm. Lemmy will do.

Claims the rum speaks to him now, whispering secrets of the drowned dead. Survives on rotgut rum and spite, immune to poison but not to bad decisions.
More than a drunk, he is a master of brewing cursed concoctions. Using rotgut rum as the base, he mixes grave dust, serpent venom, and whispers of the drowned to create potions that heal, harm, or hex.
He claims the rum spirits speak to him, teaching forbidden arts. Some say he's bargained with sea demons for recipes no mortal should know.
