And it’s only part one of season one!
I had no idea Mike was a big DS9 fan.

Him and Rich have made very positive references to the series during their TNG/Picard reviews, so they are definitely fans. I'm surprised it took them this long to review it, and I'm excited that they're doing this. If they treat it like TNG, they'll likely do another episode of S1, then start significantly condensing seasons afterwards. Which is kind of stupid since DS9 S1 was easily the worst of the series, do they should focus more of future ones.

I've only HEARD of RLM, never watched. Not sure this is up my ally, especially for DS9. First few minutes they've got a toned down Siskel and Ebert vibe, I guess. Is this what they ran with to counter SF Academy?

They do pretty much anything film/TV related. "Toned down Siskel and Ebert" is not accurate at all. Siskel and Ebert had some entertaining jabs at each other sometimes, but RLM is much funnier. They're part Siskel and Ebert, part MST3K. The Mr. Plinkett reviews are pretty unique and super popular.

Not to come off as too fanboyish, but if you exclude music, RLM content accounts for probably 50% of my Youtube consumption. They do video game stuff too, but it's been a while since they've done new stuff, and it usually involves their less-talented members. I'd highly recommend doing a deep dive into their content (Best of the Worst, Half in the Bag, Reviewed, and Mr. Plinkett.)

Probably, I think they’ve given up on new Trek.
They’re the production company that does the Mr. Plinkett reviews, which if you haven’t seen them you should check them out.
Critical Drinker probably borrowed a lot from Mr. Plinkett for his schtick, though who knows.

Calm your tits. It may be a reasonable assumption based on the first part of this one video. I'm saying that it's not an accurate description of their work in general. I'm just trying to encourage you to do a deeper dive into what I'd consider hundreds (maybe 1000+) hours of entertainment.

Ahhh, again, not aware of Mr. Plinkett either. So much internet, so little time.

And speaking of production, the number of producers ( including executive, assistant, co , etc.. ) is 24 for this SF Academy show.

That's insane!

Me: whatever

You: calm your tits!

I can't be more casual than 'whatever', especially on 2 guys I started off admitting I hadn't seen yet. But if I ever find an extra 1000 hours of video entertainment I need to fill...

For the record, while TNG had 3 of the best characters in all of Trek (Picard, Data and Worf), DS9 was way ahead of its time in tone, storytelling and was a better overall series.

RLM Best of the Worst review series is extremely entertaining if you like so bad their good type movies and just plain weird shite from the VHS era.

I still prefer TNG (slightly), but that may be due to memberberries. I didn't watch DS9 until about a year and a half ago, and I only did it after asking this board if it was of similar quality as TNG.

Ignoring the memberberries: DS9 had MUCH better characters overall, but I still prefer the TNG type storylines that are more problem solving/morality based compared to the ongoing war/conflict storylines of DS9. Though they both did each of those types of episodes, and both did them very well. But there aren't many shows that put out top tier episodes like "Measure of a Man" or "Inner Light", whereas there are a handful of shows that have an equivalent of the final ~6 episodes of DS9 (which were great). "In the Pale Moonlight" was morality based and slang serious cum though, and may be my favorite Star Trek episode ever.

Just the main Cardassians - Dukat and Garak - arguably the finest, most well developed, 4-dimensional villain and anti-hero in all of filmed science fiction, respectively.

The Jem'Hadar, Weyoun, Quark, the whole Ferengi branch, and the list goes on. Although the main Bajoran characters were fairly dull, Kira was aight. As much as I liked Worf (as he developed, anyway) on TNG, he was a better character in DS9. The civilians and it being a real, living, breathing location with continuity of events and consequences made it a more tangible story than the "prosthetic forehead alien of the week" story that often dominated TNG.

FWIW, TOS is still my favorite (IKR?), but DS9 is ever so slightly ahead of TNG for the above reasons (and more). At its best, TNG was fantastic, A+ grade television. DS9 was just more consistent and had more to offer than its "episodic" older brother. Even though it might have had fewer peak spikes, the floor was much higher and even the misses were solid. They rarely let Jake take them off course and did not have the "Deus ex Wesley" problems that early TNG had.
