GPS watch or range finder?

My range finder fell off my cart and I ran over it
I'm in the market for either a GPS watch or a new range finder. For those who have either one, what do you like or not like about each. Looking to spend around $300 for something but I can't make up my mind which one I want. Thanks for your help in this matter.

I have both, but it's just because I can't bring myself to fully trust my GPS watch. I have a Garmin S42. For the vast majority of circumstances it is fine. However, I will pull out my rangefinder just to confirm things when I have time.

I've got a Garmin Fenix 7 and no longer use a rangefinder

Did your rangefinder confirm your watch or was it off by more than a yard or so?

Why did you go with a Garmin fitness tracker/sports watch instead of their golf watch? Do you track more of your fitness than golf?

More often than not, it confirms things. There have been times where the gps watch was off. That is what keeps me coming back to the rangefinder. I am not good enough to need an exact number to the pin. The middle should be my aim, but I have more confidence when I can confirm the number I am looking at is right.

I use TheGrint on my phone/watch, but also use a rangefinder. I like being able to shoot the flag, but I will use my phone when there's nothing particularly good to shoot at in the fairway.

I track more fitness than golf so I wanted one that did both.

Same. Rangefinder all day.

I like my rangefinder. Don't like phone apps. I don't wear watches. Don't like having to pull my phone every shot.
I like to grab my rangefinder, I can measure all sorts of objects like trees, bunkers, flag in seconds. Much easier and faster to me.

Having worked in a Pro Shop, I can say we averaged one or two range finders lost at a course per day, not one single GPS or Garma lost. Not sure why, but it seems a good number of players lose them.
And if you don't have perfectly balanced hands and eyes, range finders can be hard to handle. The advantage of GPS is that it can give you distance to the front, middle, back of greens. Switched and found them much better than a range finder.
The only negative, GPS will drain the charge kind of quick, you have to be constantly charging it before every round. But, I have to admit I started hitting more greens once I switched to a Garma. And I have one of the older ones, the newer ones are better.
