Only hints: treaty in 1916, transfer in 1917 for $25 million in gold.

Gasden Purchase, around Arizona and New Mexico IIRC.

I'm going to guess it was the U.S. Virgin Islands purchased from the Dutch.

Half right....we purchased them from DENMARK.
Hmmmmmmmmm, so we do have a purchasing history.

I say land associated with the Panama Canal, which some idiot (D) allowed to be given back to Panama.

Good guess, but purchase of Virgin Islands was a few years later.
Fun fact...and also relevant to Greenland. Panama had been owned by Colombia. Colombia wouldn't sell to USA. Teddy helped Panama secede from Colombia. Is history going to repeat?

Did we purchase Saipan, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands from Germany?

Germany had owned them at some point, but we didn't purchase them directly from Germany. I think they were "awarded" to us after WWII.

Carter, even deceased, he's the gift which keeps on giving... and voting.
