I went with a K&N engine air filter. Lifetime warranty and washable.

There was some debris blocking the air flow underneath the filter.

Not a bad idea to vacuum the whole compartment when replacing.

This K&N filter has made a slight but definitely noticable difference in performance - set me back a cool $70.

Cool story bro

No dude...I am advocating for purchasing high performance engine air filters because they make your car go slightly faster.

I edited to take out that part. Thanks for your candor

K&N is to auto air filters as Bose is to home audio: all marketing and poor performance.

Next time, let your husband make the air filter buying decisions.

Poke a hole in it and it'll go faster

If you're gonna keep a vehicle for 10 years, or 150K miles, a reusable filter can make sense.
The cleaning and oiling process can be a PITA, though.

I don't think you could feel a performance increase, if there would be any

I'd have to see that on a dyno.

Nothing screws up an IAT Sensor faster than over oiling the filter pleats with the supplied oil.
Use very sparingly.

There was a piece of thin carboard paper from the OEM filter blocking the airflow chamber. That's probably a factor. I noticed a difference today.

Appreciate you VG bc I know you know this subject

Yep, it sticks to the filter and ends up the sensor.

Agreed…we used to flip the air filter cover when we raced….no difference in power, but it sounded better!

Only increases I noticed was the noise level under the hood and the increase of silicates in the oil analysis.

They are trash. They do not block contaminates even as well as the very cheapest of paper filters you can buy.

It absolutely does not.

My Tundra has no noticeable difference in performance despite the expensive air filter. PIA to clean IMO. Would rather just replace the filter with a cheaper one when needed.

But good on you for wanting to do your own maintenance and improving vehicle performance. Just not my thing.

Gotta question the air filter system if there is debris that made it past.

Stay with a paper filter. Cheaper and what your car was designed for.

It was a piece of the OEM filter. Some paper material from the side of it

Whatever OEM filter your vehicle calls for. But Puralator makes a good aftermarket filter for both oil filters and air filters.

Edit: since it seems like you are generally curious, anytime an aftermarket product is sold that is telling you it will gown you “X” horsepower, “x” extra MPG, etc they are full of shite.

If you could slap on a $70 filter or a $100 throttle body spacer and gain horsepower and MPG then it would have been done by the manufacturer because they are trying to squeeze as many HP and MPG as they can out of the smallest engine possible so they can keep up with the CAFE standards.
