Holy crap what a ride. At least the first half so far. This storyline is insane. The characters are really REALLY well done. Not a single one I don't like including the preacher blonde.
Anyone on the fence you need to plug into this. Watching this in 4K HDR10 atmos late at night.. Wow. Just wow.

Season 3 was dope. I fell off watching it somewhere in season 4 for whatever reason. I don't think it was due to the storyline, I just missed a couple of episodes and didn't ever get back on track. Should probably pick it back up

When they first showed the Martian Marines training way back in late season 1 or whatever I never dreamed how that would play out. This is a show where there isn't (at least so far) any throw away storylines. You gotta pay attention to everything even stuff that may seem boring at the time.

All I can really remember is the Ganymede incident, but that whole scene was wild. Pretty sure that's season 3

I deleted it. I want to keep this thread spoiler free for those who haven't watched it.

I'm currently on Episode 9 of the 3rd season.
I know the show ends before the books do. So, if you haven't read the books, you really need to. Amos is the baddest dude in the universe.

Definitely going to pick the books up next

Amazon didn't do justice to the 6th season. They rushed it because they were already focused on on buttfricking wheel of time and rings of power.
Don't be surprised if some people start making some noise about finishing The Expanse in a few years. There was a 30 year gap between the events in seasons 1-6 and what happens next.

I'm told the books , naturally, are better, but then after what we see in S6, there's a bit of a time jump. Cutting to the chase, the story sounds like it falls off after that point.

It doesn't fall off. It's still a great story, it's just a new story.
The only real issue I had with the last 3 books is that with the time jump, the crew of the Rocinante is all supposedly in their 70's.
The authors take some pretty big leaps with some pretty big facts. In their world, earthers and martians live about 150 years, and there are 30 billion people on earth.

Fair enough, but if fans are invested in the 4,5,6 seasons of these characters, the time jump may not be to their liking.
This isn't House of the Dragon where it's the same characters with different actors, but full on a different setting in time.

Do you have to watch season 1 & 2 to understand and enjoy season 3?

Cutting to the chase, the last two books are the highest rated in the series. It doesn't remotely fall off and you don't know what you are talking about.
That being said, it would be extremely difficult to finish the series without recasting new characters or doing it animated due to the time jump, which is probably a nonstarter.

So without giving away too much, the Rocinante and its crew are very much still the focal point.
Its the big sociopolitical players that are kinda new.
Basically, Mars and Earth ain't running shite no more. There are 2 new players, one of which is a natural conclusion of the actions of all the most evil characters you've seen in the show and books.
It's fun, but it's a lot closer to the pure horror of the Eros storyline than anything else in the show.

See if you can follow along.

I didn't read the books
I never claimed to have read the books.
I HAVE heard from some who did read the books that the latter story lines are of lesser quality.
And again, I DID say "IF YOU WERE INVESTED IN THE CHARACTERS", then maybe you'd not like how the books move forward. It's not a declarative statement. Maybe you will, maybe not.
FFS, relax.

I didn't care for the events after the Ring appeared, how humanity basically said 'neat, now gimmie!' and threw 100% of any caution to the wind.
I say I didn't care for it not because it wasn't likely to happen that way, but because it probably would.

Opinions can be wrong.
Use some audible credits. The narration is excellent.

Absolutely. You can't really miss an episode.
