Anyone else notice black stuff falling out of the sky? Any clue where it’s from?

Bagasse.

Ash from burning off the sugar cane found a good bit in my yard yesterday. Good fertilizer I believe.

Sugar cane ash can be used as a weak fertilizer, providing some nutrients to the soil, but it is not very strong compared to other fertilizers. It can also help raise the soil pH, acting similarly to lime

If I didn't know any better, this would sound kind of personal insult.

No. Bagasse is what’s left over after the grinding process. The ash to which you refer is just the cane burned off by the farmer before harvesting. Bane of my existence when I had a swimming pool.
