We should take this guy and worry about D later. I know we can't trade Reggie now but we should get a true RB to help Pierre and move on.

Que the Reggie suck off in 3, 2, .......

I disagree, we really need to focus on defense. It was a joke last year. If you want a running back, i think Beanie Wells would be better. The styles of Wells, Thomas, and Bush would be a lot like what the Giants had with Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw. But like I said, they really need defense, not offense, offense was #1 last year

I would rather take Beenie if we were to take a RB but I absolutely don't want to take an offensive player in first round.

We do NOT need to draft any offensive players PERIOD. Only maybe an OT in the later rnds. We need to get some saftey help in FA and draft LB/CB DT or DE. Like I said, maybe an OT.

I agree we need defense first, but to play devils advocate a good running game does improve a defense.

We've done such a great job drafting D....

I agree the D needs to improve but if we have a guy that can pick up some 3 and 1's we're in the playoffs. I'm not saying ignore defense but they just need a couple of guys and Greg Williams will have them set...

OT would help the offense out MUCH more than a RB.

You people who want a fricking running back are dumbasses.

This is stupid--we're not drafting a RB (get over it)-- we'll survive with our struggling offense --Draft defense and more defense and then sign more defense in FA

I forgot to mention-- that the Eagles also stuggled picking short gains in the running game and they made it to the NFC Championship and the Cardinals running game was turrible and we all kno what they did (RBs may be the biggest waste of a 1st round draft pick always--they are a dime a dozen)

:KigePeanutButterJellyTimeThis:

ETA: Peyton has been all LBs according to a friend of mine with some Saints contacts.

LB would be bad unless Curry drops. Ray Ray is the only other LB I really like, but he doesn't fit well at WLB, and I don't know if you move Vilma to the outside for Ray's sake after being so good in the middle. Though a Vilma/Maualuga/Fujita LB corps is pretty exciting.

I still think trading down is the best move.

i don't know about should, but i like the idea. I won't they say they should or shouldn't until i see the board that day, but it isn't a bad idea at all (depending on what they do in FA)

quote:

TERRIBLE example

a big guy like jacobs can work in NY...not in NO

thomas isn't a starter and bush can't stay healthy

even when he is healthy, he needs to be utilzed in other positions on the field

the offense needs a back just like moreno for numerous reasons.

In NY, their offense is predicated on running/pounding the ball...not in NO

Payton won't saddle up and ride a big back like beanie in between the tackles 25+. The Saints need a back who can run inside well, but has enough versatility to catch alot of balls out of the backfield and move around the offensive side of the ball. The whole "we have reggie, lets get a bruiser" approach is terrible for the saints.

quote:

We did not lose because we lacked scoring power last year

go back to the saints season in 06...when the saints can't run the ball they have had struggled severaly...this year is loaded in FA on the defensive side of the ball...take advantage of it.

quote:

when are you people gonna realize RB's can be found anywhere for fricks sake!

why don't the saints have one? and please don't say thomas is a starter in this league....please.

it doesn't matter how common they are, if you need one and don't have one...you should get one

there are other positions of need as well, but like i said, DT and CB are very rish this year in FA

quote:

I still think trading down is the best move.

is usually is..but it isn't as simple as saying I want to move down. you have to find someone stupid enough to pay the preset hefty price

almost every team would prefer to trade down from the first round almost every year

Half of the NFC has teams where wintery conditions are windy/cold etc and your chances GREATLY indcrease when you can go into those climates and run the ball with consistency (chicago 06). Brees doesn't have a Eli or Ben R. arm...he can't sling it all around a cold and windy football field.

If the saints continue to struggle to find a consistent running game, they'll continue to have offensive hiatuses when things aren't clicking.
