My dad was involved in a hit and run at the intersection of 119 and 280 in Birmingham, AL. His truck was rear ended by a white SUV that looked like a Tahoe, maybe 10 or so years old. The license plate started with 1C04, and he thinks the next two digits were 39, but can't be sure. The damage was $3,300. The cops took the information, but he hasn't heard anything. Does anyone know a way to search partial license plates? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Why can't the cops run it?

I'd just move on. Chances are the car was stolen or the owner otherwise has no insurance and barely a dollar to their name.

And get him a dashcam for late Christmas.

The guy that hit him had gotten out and talked with my dad until my dad determined he would need a police report. At that point, the guy said that he would just go to jail and got back in his car and drove off. We're assuming he already had a warrant and if so, I tend to think they may already know who it was, but he's not been given any information.

Sorry, OT detectives only work during employer-paid time.

No plate readers in the area??
With the vehicle description and partial plate number the authorities should be able access the readers and identify the person in minutes

He was told there wasn't a matching stolen vehicle report.

That's exactly what we would have thought. Especially with where the incident occurred.
