A really solid hire for Carolina to replace a really good coach in Sterling Lucas. An argument could be made that it might be a slight upgrade, but at worst it's close to a push. Some credit has to be given to Beamer for making some really solid offseason moves with his back against the wall.

Also sounds like Stewart is staying.

his resume speaks for itself. I put the at worst because I know LSU fans will claim bias. Make no mistake we all recognize that Lucas is a great coach, and that was a great hire.

But, Barnes has a hell of a resume with the kids he has coached. The year that Kyle Kennard went off, he was coaching a kid who had more sacks. He has put more big name guys into the league. Again at worst it's a push.

Which makes it all the more impressive that he was able to bring in a quality coach, and lure that coach away from their alma mater.

Giving flowers to Beamer for doing a good job on this one doesn't make you less of a fan of your school...

This was probably not Lane's plan when he hired Lucas.

Two things: 1. Who is South CaroLLLLLLLLina playing in a bowl game? Oh wait, they finished 4-8 and aren't bowl eligible. 2. LSU will have fewer losses than South Carolina in 2026.

You’re not that stupid. He didn’t hire an assistant coach to maybe get one player. The hope is he will be here a while as we’ve had lot of turnover on the DL coach position for several years.

I get that you’re still in pain, but come on man.

I don’t think you’ll see big name kids like Stewart leave very often. It happens occasionally yes but not as a rule. Schools aren’t just gonna let their best players leave for a better offer.

The portal is as much about great evaluations and finding guys who fit what you’re trying to do and then further developing those guys.

We are fortunate that Lane is elite in managing the portal. Super excited about the future of our program

Don’t be like Ole Miss fans and act like the coach you lost isn’t that great. You sound as petty as Ole Miss fans do about Kiffin. Of course the fanbase that lost one of their better coaches on staff is gonna say the new coach is just as good or better and they didn’t lose that much

We went from a good possibly great coach to an elite coach at the position. We upgraded. Good luck to Sterling Lucas in all of his future endeavors.

Should be a good candidate for interim coach next year.

lol worrying about a defensive line coach when your head coach is still Shane Beamer. Congrats in advance on your 4-8 season in 2026.

This simply isn't true. SC fans have, unanimously, admitted that Lucas is a big loss. He was an excellent DE coach - although I don't know how he'll handle the entire DL. That wasn't in the cards for him at SC.

Now, we can admit that Lucas is a big loss, but also say that Barnes is one helluva replacement - and on paper, could *potentially* be an upgrade. It doesn't make us salty.

I wish Lucas well. Can't fault a guy for leaving for a legit promotion- as i think he'll be your entire DLine coach. I can also be excited about Barnes. It's not mutually exclusive.
