Deer hunting in the heat

This topic gets brought up every season it feels like but it’s what motivates some to get out there.
For everyone across the lower 48 it’s been a very warm week so far and going into Xmas it will be warm. Especially in the south. In particularly Louisiana. Week of NYE it will cool off and *gasps* it’ll happen when I go back to work.
This is my experience, but I have had much better luck in the cold than the heat. Particularly upper 70 degree weather. I have seen them in the heat and killed a small amount even, However they have to move at some point to survive despite the heat.
At the same time…I do question life after I go in the heat, sweat my arse off, kill more skeeters than I know what to do with, and not see a single living animal.
I’m trying to convince myself to go Sunday and not give myself the whole “well it’s better than being at work” spiel. And really hate to use PTO on Tuesday when I know there will be better days to go in January.
Has the OB been having luck in this heat? I need some motivation to go on Sunday.

The rut doesn’t wait for a cold front, I take my days off when I know they’re gonna be fired up and don’t look back. Has never mattered if it’s 23 or 73, someone is gonna kill a mature buck on our place on January 3rd.

Fair enough. All the deer i have killed in the heat were in a food plot on private land. I guess the circle of life continues even when its 75 F and its not ideal

When it’s hot during the rut, the chase happens more at night. That said, get in the woods.

Pre rut and post rut are way better at my place. The brush is so thick you really can’t get in there to chase them.
When they are locked down it’s slow as heck at my place.

Warmth cuts their activity way down but you can’t kill them if you don’t get in the woods. It does suck that it’s been pretty cold all December and now get a week off to hunt and it’s gonna be 75 every day.

This week has made me appreciate living to see the fifth stage of a hunters life.
