after every year, guys on a traditional track to being drafted after three years, are entering the portal for a pay raise. Continuity can be good for a player’s development, and sticking around is great for the team. Will this “hello I’m gone” bit ever stop? Or is progressing at one school a thing of the past? The NFL cares little for a kid’s loyalty, so no help there. There was a time when we could look at our roster and say “ok we took our lumps but we’re a year away or we’re two years away”. Not any more fosters turn over and flip more than a Vegas whore.

Kirby seems to be able to convince his guys to wait their turn.

You have no idea why they are going in the portal. Money plays a part but so does depth chart and plenty of other issues.

As long as we know that and don’t hold on to that nostalgia, we will be fine.

I understand the disdain for it. I want Louisiana guys from rs/true frosh to fifth year senior.

But the reality is that if all other 15 sec programs don’t keep up, they fall behind.

Kiffin and Kirby understand this the best.

How is it untrue? Everything he said has been getting worse every year. If you think all of that is untrue after what’s been going on in the portal then you just aren’t paying attention at all or just in denial.

Absolutely true. There's no development pipeline anymore. Traditionally you'd have a freshman who could play some snaps each game and show promise to develop into a good player in a couple of years. In today's game, that freshman who had some success is looking to jet for a bag and a guranteed starting job as soon as the season ends.

If a kid has any kind of success at all, be prepared to be held hostage every year for more money and guaranteed playing time. This mentality has taken much of the joy out of CFB. If we wanted to root for mercenaries we'd watch the NFL.. at least we know they are under contract for more than one year

If Dude is dominating where he is and projected 1st or 2nd round why would you leave. Because if you do and you dont have the year you had the last 2. It might cost you some money. Why prove yourself not worth in college for pennies. I mean when you want to fail is after that huge signing bonus if you are going to fail.

Is this what OP is saying

If the coaches can do it, why not the players?

And injuries will become more numeous because of the lack of technique.

frickum, this is what they want so, this is what they get.

QB prices will go up in the NFL because fat boys can't block.

Just be glad you’re a fan of a program that has some prestige and is in the SEC.

You’re not nearly as effected as a lower tier P4 program or G6 program.

The timing of the Portal madness benefited the teams, that already had solid rosters. LSU was in a pathetic state when it all began & has been chasing it's tail since. Meanwhile Georgia & a few others only need a piece here or there.

Kiffin has a lot of work to do, at least he knows what an SEC player looks like & how hard it is to compete in the SEC. I want to believe LSU/Kiffin can bring in legit talent & make a run. Hopefully challenge for the SEC Title religiously.
