Since a lot of star players want to renegotiate every year, why not just have 1 year deals

By having one year deals, the player can maximize his value if they have a great year, and it's great for schools because the players that don't live up to expectations can be sent packing.

Isn’t that what is already happening? I think this is dumb re negotiating with players every year. Atleast with the NFL when u sign a contract you have to see it out.

Going with this wishful thinking, why not sign them to contracts and force them to stick to the deal....oh wait, because they have it both ways, they get paid but are not considered professionals but students and thus are not treated like professionals in only one way, they can take the cash, suck and then transfer 4 times before they retire at the age of 22.

There needs to be a rule in place that your first “contract” is for two years. After you have been at a school for two years, you can transfer.
I also wouldn’t mind bringing back the sitting out rule after the first transfer.

I guess it is already happening to a certain extent, but having yearly deals allows schools to get rid of those players underperforming. Currently teams are now signing players to multi year guaranteed deals, regardless of how they are performing.

I think this would, or will, be the quickest way to equalize and stabilize this new market.
Like it or not, this is where we are in college football, and best to end the chaos of it all as quickly as possible to figure out what exactly it is they do with this beast they’ve created.
I think it’s great that the players get their fair share of the billion dollar industry they risk their bodies for. But anything beyond a one year deal is just dumb.

Scholarships are one year deals. Teams can move on/process.
NIL contracts are likely effectively one year deals too.

College game is professional
Send them all to a GLeague and eliminate the fraud.

Almost like a merit based system, makes too much sense will never happen

Now do something about coaches that leave a school before finishing out their contract.
If coaches aren't going to be forced to stay, you can't make the players stay.

Only way to stop the avalanche is to collectively bargain with the players and call them what they are, employees. Otherwise, things are just going to continue to get worse.
In the CBA, they have to get their arms around NIL and eliminate the pay for play thing. I realize stuff will still happen under the table, but at least it would only involve the top players instead of the entire roster. Autograph signings, commercials, social media promotion of a business or entity by the players is all legit. Also, getting back to the one time free transfer would curb a ton of the portal movement.

Not every contract has a buyout. In the past coaches have always had the freedom to leave, but not the players. Players had to ask a school for their release, and schools could restrict where they went. Plus players had to sit out a year unless transfering to a sub- division school.
Coaches brought this system on themselves by restricting player movement but not their own. Im not a fan of the current system, but if coaches can move around freely then so should the players.

Maybe some have 1 year deals, but the big stars have multi year deals like Bryce Underwood's four deal worth 12M.

California and the Obannan brothers brought this on. You give 18 yr. Olds this kind of power eventually they’re going to try to strong am the NCAA and go on strike. Matter of time. They could sink the whole ship.

Reduce roster size to 60-65
2 year commitments. And everyone gets 5 years. No more redshirt drama unless injury in your last year.
Make talent evaluation and development paramount.

I think the majority of players have 1 year deals, sometimes even less. Gordon McKernan is on record saying that most of his NIL deals are for 3-4 months.

If we have to pay them then it should be on performance only. Nothing before the season. Only pay for good plays, good tackles. Things of that nature. Look at what happened with Nuss. Handed him four million and he phoned it in.
