The university of mississippi is the one that has to ask the ncaa for him to play next year. If they think he will transfer somewhere else why would they do it?
That's all I got

The waiver request process is not done through the university.
Pro tip: there is a fancy new invention called Google. You can use it to learn more about what you don't understand. I recommend you try it out.

How the Transfer Portal works:
1. Notify your school: A player tells their current school's compliance office they want to enter the portal.
2. Entry into database: The school has 48 hours to add the player's name and basic info (like sport, year, position) to the NCAA's online database.
3. "Free Agency" begins: Once listed, other college coaches can legally contact the player, offering scholarships and NIL deals.
4. Player control: Players can enter contact info or leave it blank, choosing to reach out to schools or let them come to them.
5. Decision time: Players can take their time to decide, but must enter during specific windows for immediate eligibility.
6. Commitment: A player commits to a new school, and their status updates in the portal (e.g., "matriculated").

Well yes, that’s how the portal works. Thats not the issue, it’s eligibility. If he gets eligible for an extra year, he can go to the portal just as any other player.
I read somewhere that Kiffin somehow expects Chambliss to get another year. I have no idea if thats true.
Here is how an AI search answered when asked about the criteria for a waiver:
“To get an extra year in college football, athletes typically use a Medical Hardship Waiver for season-ending injuries (before playing more than 30% or the halfway point) or apply for various waivers for specific circumstances, like military/religious service, family issues, or due to unique situations like COVID-19 or non-NCAA transfers, all while generally sticking to the five-year clock for four years of play and maintaining academic progress”.

He has already applied for the waiver.
Ole Miss is in the middle of a playoff run. Chambliss leaving is not their #1 concern at the moment.
Ole Miss is probably anticipating him leaving.
Any attempt to sabotage his decision will only hurt their reputation for future HS & Transfer Portal recruits. Im sure they know its not worth it for a kid thats has one year left.
They still have Simmons to fall back on and the portal looks like it will be heavy with QB options.

With all of the talent at QB that has entered the portal already, if Chambliss somehow isn’t at LSU next year, I’d go after quite a few before I even consider Simmons.
