This is 100 percent why.

But not only is Harris a moron, the cards were heavily stacked against them.

So in reality there were for reasons. But if they had a good candidate, people would've gone all in. But they had no good candidates.

Newsome needs the time to change his image from his disastrous leadership of California. So he couldn't run. And the democratic machinery would have been hard pressed to explain not picking Harris. They wouldn't had to say she was an idiot or get her to not run. And she was too big of a moron.
