I'm assuming you're talking about this:

quote:

I was somewhat concerned at the nine-minute mark with LSU trailing by eight points, but I did not give up on the team the way the LSU radio announcers did. Jim Hawthorne and Kevin Ford kept saying that it was just one of those nights that LSU could not do anything right and all but said LSU was going to lose the game. As most basketball fans know, basketball is a game of streaks and in most cases the home team will make a couple of runs down the stretch and that has certainly been true this season with this LSU team. Since Hawthorne and Ford are LSU employees, I hope they will not count the Tigers out of games in the future with almost half of the second half to play and trailing by less than double figures at home. I really like this LSU basketball team and I hope LSU fans will continue to support them.

Well, as the game was unfolding toward the 8 min mark, they were saying much the same as I was thinking/feeling.

Shoot me too.

Stew! Not much man. I've been going to the games and highly impressed with the coaching staff.

As far as the topic goes, we talked about this in great length last week. Hawthorne is so negative and quick to give up. I call it "old man syndrome".

Yeah, I've only missed a couple of games. It's so refreshing to watch a team that actually looks like they give a shite when they are out on the court.

Fortunately this game was on tv and I didnt have to listen to the less than dynamic duo known as Hawthorne and Ford.
LSU deserves better, but you'd never know by the faux pas Hawthorne.

Hawthorne and Ford need to go. They call a lousy game, and even in football, Hawthorne is a bandwagoner in his announcement and his negative editorials need to be replaced with new blood.

I love how people read things into stuff. Stating that LSU couldn't do anything right and that it wasn't their night was TRUE at the point where they said it. They were probably thinking and feeling the same thing that everyone else in the building was at that moment. They never once said "game over...LSU is going to lose". They were just expressing the feeling that most of us had.

Hawthorne is a second-class announcer who belongs at a place like SLU or Nicholls State. That guy continually screws up and it is painful to listen to his play-by-play, especially when LSU is down in a game (any sport). I really wish our damn strong athletic program would get a damn strong play-by-play guy.

I will say that I really don't mean this personally towards JH. I am sure he is a great guy and everything. I am also sure that it's not too easy handling play-by-play on the radio. Never done it myself. However, I just feel that we need a first-class play-by-play guy; not even sure who I would want.

Yeah, I was on the road yesterday and had to listen to this "broadcast" on XM. With over 9 minutes left in an 8 point game, with Ole Miss about to attempt 2 free throws, they had the game over. They repeated multiple times how it just wasn't LSU's night, they were too tired from the 2OT game, the ball just wasn't bouncing their way similar to the first Bama game, etc. It was truly sickening because at no point did Ole Miss break away in that game. The score was always manageable. You don't give up on an 8 point game with over 9 minutes to play!

Also, at some point in the 2nd half, Marcus Thornton went down hard and left the game. Well, just after he went down, a time out is called and we go to break. Right as we are about to go to break the announcing duo comment about how this doesn't look good, Thornton is holding his knee, etc. Well we get back, and they don't even mention Thornton. I'm going crazy wondering if he's suffered a serious injury. Finally, they casually mention that he's on the bench and looks ok. What a bunch of garbage.

The Dandy one makes some very good points. As someone who watches a shitload of basketball games, Hawthorne should know better just because of the nature of the game of basketball. Good teams will always make a run. JMO but I expected the game to tighten up at the end, and be a nailbiter win or lose. Instead, LSU did better than that and blew past the Pissers. Can you imagine if LSU had played the whole game like it did that last 7 or 8 minutes? LSU would have won by 30 points. <sarcasm>

I'm with you on this, but one thing I have learned is that Marcus is pretty good at going to the floor under the basket and surviving. I was at the game last night and once again thought that he was really hurt (he made one heck of a loud bang when he hit the floor). When he got back up it was immediately obvious that he wasn't really hurt (essentially no limp). I bet he's sore today though. Anyway, I could see the announcers worrying about how hard he hit the floor and the way he was holding his leg...

All I can say is that MT is a real warrior on the court and plays his heart out. I get tired just watching him!!

Replay on tv showed MT hyperextended his knee going up that resulting in him falling. After that tv didn't follow up on it either. Next thing you know he's back in the game. Thank goodness

From everything I've always heard, not inside sources but just LSU scuttlebutt, JH is beloved in the Athletic Dept & he has no concerns bout being let geaux. He runs the whole broadcasting dept, everything & anything do to with broadcasting LSU sports, not just the play by play of the games. He is the ultimate company man & has no enemies in any sport's deparments.
