Dylan recorded Watchtower with his Americana style of acoustic guitar and harmonica. A copy of the reel to reel tapes were given to Hendrix to listen to by Dylan's manager. Hendrix recorded WT a year later improvising with his psychedelic rock musical style and electric guitar. Hendrix released Watchtower before Dylan released his single and Jimi's is arguably the more popular version.

Hendrix was just different. His first 2 released singles were Hey Joe and Stone Free. The intro to Stone Free is uniquely Jimi and unmistakable when you hear it

Hey Joe.

Maybe one of the best versions right here. Dude stands still on stage destroys then breaks into a Hendrix riff at the end.
