Just keep the 12 team playoff and use the BCS process to determine the seeding.
The biggest issue with the BCS before was it was only 2 teams.
If they would have expanded back then and continued to use the BCS, then the talking heads point would not carry much weight.
Hell, add in more metrics if you want, but I would trust that system today over the committee even if I had a few gripes about the teams the computer would include.
But a 12 team playoff using the BCS formula is better than what they are doing now.

You do realize the “computers” that the BCS used to rank teams is literally no different than AI right? It’s just a computer algorithm.
