I want Bama excluded because it will hasten the end of conference championship games

Those games are pointless, obsolete, and stupid in today’s college football landscape. Just have co-champions of conferences and expand the CFP to 16 teams.
Conference championship weekend can be replaced with play-in weekend for the CFP. That will keep the cash flowing and make it more palatable to scrap the conference championship games.

Conference championship game weekend as we know it is going away no matter what, but it would be expedited if Bama is left out.

I like the SEC championship because it’s a good fun event. It’s more football. I don’t want to sacrifice it to the God of the Playoffs

The SEC and Big Ten want a guaranteed 4 spots for their conferences, then you will likely see play-in weekend.
1 vs. 2 for the SEC championship, both teams are in the CFP.
3 vs. 6 play-in game
4 vs. 5 play-in game
I think the issue is getting the Big 12 and ACC to agree to having less bids. Which is why the SEC and Big Ten may just have to raid the remaining ACC programs worth a shite.

I really want conference championship games to go away but I think if they leave bama out the only thing it will do short term is expedite the expansion to 16 teams or more. Which is just neutering the regular season more. College football as we knew it is gone.

I agree we have P4 conferences now. Have an 8 team playoff where Qtr Finals as Conference Championship games. Champions advance to semi finals which is held the week that first round now and finals are on New Year's Day!
You can now eliminate early signing period and the debate about coaches in the playoffs. Move signing day to first week of Jan and the portal shortly afterwards. This would give everyone an opportunity transfer and give early enrollees a chance to enroll before the semester starts.
Notre Dame can choose to join a conference and participate on playoffs or remain independent. The choice is theirs and no one else would give a shite except for execs at NBC.
