This is about Trump cutting off another avenue of deep state money. The deep state runs the cartels and launders the money through their global organizations.

*Defining "Deep State" as rogue elements of the CIA and their related NGO's for clarity. I do not believe the MIC is involved in the drug smuggling. Feel free to change my mind on that too.

I don't think this will change your mind, but I think this is really about breaking up "state sponsored" hacking networks that have been nurtured in Venezuela for many years. I could be wrong though.

In my opinion Roger just answered Legends concern.
You can't go after Mexico because the normie brain will reject the notion that the CIA runs the cartels (even though there is extensive evidence that they are deeply involved with them, at a minimum) and doing so will basically start the color revolution that they want so badly.
Trump has to change the narrative of what he's doing. It's not cutting off deep state drug money, it's stopping fent shipments. If he goes after Mexico they will scream "illegal order!" and "dictator" at the top of their lungs from every outlet. The Mexican president has much more legitimacy than Maduro. It would be an international incident.
Going for their throat would make the deep state go all out on destabilization and he obviously isn't ready for that yet.

In this instance I believe the CIA is the primary culprit. They have the history. I doubt the MIC is tied up in basic recon. MIC deep state people are behind desks not in the field.
