I get the impression from many posters on here that they think that a kid "Betrays" the State of Louisiana by not going there to play football, Basketball etc.there....Inspired by current recruiting, Joe McKnight, Manning thread below etc.

That there is some sort of "Louisiana Duty" to want to play at LSU or be a fan...

Maybe b/c I am a LSU fan and alumnus who is not from the state and who has never had any loyalty to any University or program from my home state...I just do not understand that logic...

Am I wrong..?...

You live in Louisiana, get pride of the LSU sports. You have to play for LSU if you have the talents.

I think that it all stems from the fact that it is Louisiana. Most of the categories (health, education, etc.) states are ranked on, Louisiana seems to be always at or near the bottom. LSU is basically our one shining star--something to feel proud of.

We feel that it is the responsiblity of our fellow Louisianians to keep it that way. When kids leave the state for other schools it is basically like them betraying us.

Yes, we need to recruit out of state, but that is why LSU has such rabid fans. No matter what is going on at home or just as a state, LSU is our pick me up (usually).

Hope this was helpful.

Do you feel better now that you got that out?

Most fans probably feel slighted when a recruit goes OOS.

There's another side to this coin. What if LSU shows no interest in the kid, not even to let him walk on? What then?

Only if they say they are committed to LSU the night before signing day and then change their mind the day after signing day

I think a kid making a decision on furthering his education only owes his home state school a fair chance without needless self promotion and downright sabotage.

As far as LSU is concerned, it's pretty evident that the kids who really want to play for LSU and can do without the drama are the most successful in the long run anyway.

That's part of the problem. That said, the punishment for state athletes (of LSU's choosing) failing to come to LSU is severe. Death penalty sometimes!

No...but to the more rabid of our brethren you might be labled a blasphemer. Losing a #1 like Joe McKnight hurt (probably more because of where he went than because he went) but in no way did I feel like he betrayed Louisiana. I believe in free will and the bottom line is that it is his life and his choice. I do have a problem with the look at me putz's who on signing day play the colors switch or hat in a bag crap. JMHO.

Wow! I guess everyone should not care about the USA....just believe in nothing. Have no sense of duty or pride for your country, state and fellow man.

Sounds great!

I for one abandoned the hell out of my home state & am only sad about it that I'm too far away to make football games.

Of course you are wrong.

And if you became a LSU fan because we were winning, you are also a frontrunner.

Unless you have some other sort of connection that you didn't mention, why in the world would you choose to root for a random out of state team?

I grew up loving all things LSU, so it's always hard for me to understand top talent leaving because I couldn't imagine doing it.

That being said, I wish they would all go and graduate from LSU...and then they can leave the state like other graduates being "disloyal" to their state.

It's more of a you're with us or against us type deal moreso that a "you owe us" type of deal.

Pick whoever you want but pick again us and we are again you.
