Ages of notable coaches at their first National Championship

The average age of a college coach to win their first natty since the 1980s has hovered around 50. Saban was 51. Lane is 50.
I know doesn’t mean anything but I’m a little superstitious and this is just a little tidbit that aligns with our current situation.
The following list details the ages of prominent college football coaches when they secured their first national title.
Danny Ford: 33 (Clemson, 1981)
Bob Stoops: 39 (Oklahoma, 2000)
Urban Meyer: 42 (Florida, 2006)
Dabo Swinney: 46 (Clemson, 2016)
Jimbo Fisher: 47 (Florida State, 2013)
Nick Saban: 51 (LSU, 2003)
Pete Carroll: 51 (USC, 2003)
Steve Spurrier: 51 (Florida, 1996)
Mack Brown: 54 (Texas, 2005)
Tom Osborne: 57 (Nebraska, 1994)
Bobby Bowden: 63 (Florida State, 1993)

Why would you start this thread and not include Les Miles and Coach O. I don’t want to google this but now I am.
Les Miles, 54 (LSU, 2007)
Coach O, 58 (LSU, 2019)
Les Miles, 54 (LSU, 2007)
Coach O, 58 (LSU, 2019)

Yea, well it was a weird year. They finished first in the AP poll 48 of the 65 first place votes at 12-1 winning the Rose Bowl. LSU won the BCS By winning the Sugar Bowl. So, while not a traditional or technical champion, they were AP champs, not BCS. I understand that. The BCS was created to dub “the undisputed”champion after the 1997 season bc there was a split champion. My point was just about age of true success for coaches. I should have clarified better in my post.

It wasn’t a weird year. They can say what they want, but we won the BCS National Championship and lifted the crystal ball

Uhh, this reads like someone who was too young to remember FUSC bumper stickers

AP wanted out of the bowl formula.
LSU won the national championship. USC was awarded one.

I’m still pissed we didn’t get to play them in the Sugar Bowl.
Oklahoma was such a buzzkill.

Pete Carroll never won a national championship.

It was a mistake to include Pete. I forget how sensitive y’all are on here. The thinking at the time was just including him bc of his relationship with Lane, knowing him since a child. He is one of his biggest mentors and according to his interview, advised Lane to come here. So I included him bc he is part of Lanes tree. And yes, I should have included EdO and Les, and I should have left out Pete. The point of this post was just about the avg age of coaches that reached a level of success That we all want here again. Stupid superstitious meaningless stat. Unfortunately I hit submit before thinking it through. The sentiment still stands. The message was just not written very smart as an LSU fan first and Lane fan only bc he is our coach. I’ll do better next time. I’m not gonna edit it and try to hide my frickup like other people do. It’s already there.
