NCAA rules suck and need reform BUT

Penn State firing is amusing tbh. I think they didn’t realize that this many SEC schools will be looking for new coaches. With that BYU coach backing out they are really screwed. Hartline or bust it looks like at this point.

It's really crazy. We can mock them all we want, but they've been solid under Franklin. 6 seasons since 2014 with 10+ wins. Five times finished in the Top 10. And it took him a couple years to get going, the wins started in 2016 (and you can delete 2020, the covid aberration).

So, I can get them saying "he can't win the big game, we need to upgrade", like UGA with Richt. But UGA specifically targeted Kirby Smart and got him (and that's paid off).
How the frick do you blow up the program without a plan?

I mean, Florida hung on a year too long, and tried to get ahead. I think they upgraded from Napier, but not to the extent they wanted.... but he had them fighting just to make bowls.
LSU had Kelly and was locked into 9-10 win seasons, decided to jump Florida to get Kiffin. Kelly wasn't going to get above 10 wins here, he just wasn't. Kiffin might be the guy to get us back in the national title mix.

What the frick is Penn State doing? Tired of going 10-3, so they're going to spend less and go 6-6 instead? It's nuts.

True, but I'm looking at this from the Penn State perspective.

You didn't flush 6 10-win seasons in the last 8 (normal) years, to dip into the G5 market. And especially not after Auburn and Florida just picked off the top 2 guys in that field. If they were targeting Kiffin (as it seems now to be hinted), in the interview you ask him what he wants, and say "yes"; which is what LSU did.
Otherwise, you stand pat this year. I mean, the guy you fired, Franklin, was hired a month later by a P4 school, Va Tech.
