Since Ole Miss refused to let Lane finish the season, do they owe him his buyout?

Should Ole Miss sever ties with Kiffin, it would prove costly. Kiffin is entitled to 80% of his remaining pay if the Rebels fire him without cause. If he were fired at the conclusion of the 2024 regular season on Nov. 30, the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation would be obligated to pay Kiffin roughly $36,590,000.

Kiffin has language in his contract that automatically extends the deal by one year if he wins seven or more regular season games. If he doesn't win seven games, the contract still extends as of Dec. 8, though both Kiffin and the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation have the option to forego that extension. If Kiffin's automatic contract extension is triggered, as of Dec. 8 of each year, his buyout rises to nearly $44 million.

Kiffin's buyout states that he has no duty to mitigate, meaning that any of his future earnings will not offset the amount owed to him by the foundation.

He wanted to keep coaching, but Ole Miss told him to hit the road. Sounds like firing to me

Yes, fired.. they'll try to say "with cause". Probably just call the whole thing a wash and not seek buyout from LSU.

"Sign this extension or you are outta here!"

Thats extortion, brother! Love to see how that holds up in court.

no, this is the equivalent to giving a two week notice and your company saying “that’s not necessary, leave now”.

the company didn’t fire you, you quit.
