Points per game and national ranking as offensive coordinator or head coach:
2005 - USC (OC) - 49.1 (2nd)
2006 - USC (OC) - 30.5 (15th)
2009 - Tennessee - 29.3 (35th)
2010 - USC - 31.0 (29th)
2011 - USC - 35.8 (14th)
2012 - USC - 32.1 (36th)
2013 - USC - 29.7 (51st)
2014 - Alabama (OC) - 36.1 (18th)
2015 - Alabama (OC) - 33.6 (33rd)
2016 - Alabama (OC) - 39.4 (13th)
2017 - Florida Atlantic - 40.2 (7th)
2018 - Florida Atlantic - 29.5 (49th)
2019 - Florida Atlantic - 36.0 (12th)
2020 - Ole Miss - 39.2 (14th)
2021 - Ole Miss - 32.0 (29th)
2022 - Ole Miss - 31.3 (35th)
2023 - Ole Miss - 31.9 (28th)
2024 - Ole Miss - 35.5 (10th)
2025 - Ole Miss - 36.2 (13th)
Average of 23rd.
10 years out of 19 in the top 18.
Only 2 years out of 19 not in the top 36.
Worst year with SEC players was 35th.
History has shown that you have to have at worst a top 30-40 offense and/or a top 30-40 defense to win a championship.
LSU national scoring rankings for the same years:
2005 - 29.9 (39th)
2006 - 33.7 (9th)
2009 - 24.8 (71st)
2010 - 29.5 (40th)
2011 - 34.7 (18th)
2012 - 29.1 (56th)
2013 - 34.8 (23rd)
2014 - 25.3 (85th)
2015 - 32.8 (38th)
2016 - 27.8 (65th)
2017 - 25.8 (80th)
2018 - 32.5 (32nd)
2019 - 47.2 (1st)
2020 - 32.0 (37th)
2021 - 25.9 (76th)
2022 - 32.2 (28th)
2023 - 43.3 (1st)
2024 - 29.3 (47th)
2025 - 18.7 (117th)
Average of 45th.
4 years out of 19 in the top 18.
8 years out of 19 not in the top 40.
Worst year was 117th.
6 years of 65th or worse.
This is why LSU is paying Lane Kiffin. Get ready for consistently good offense. With his historical offenses combined with at least a top 40 defense and likely much better than that from Blake Baker, LSU will be competing for conference and national championships.
Note: The rankings are for only games against FBS opponents.

Kiffin, with all the talent he can recruit here, could probably have us in the top 10 offensively every season
Posted on 11/30/25 at 7:20 pm to NorthEndZone
We didn't score 30 points in any game this year except one, and he averages over 29 every year. If we just averaged 30 points this year we'd be a top team in the playoff.

Utah 6th and 18th (15)
James Madison 9th and 10th (19)
USC is 11th and 39th (17)
Oregon 12th and 8th (4)
Ole Miss 13th and 36th (5)
Ohio State 17th and 1st (1)
Miami 20th and 6th (13)
Washington 20th and 20th (30)
Georgia 22nd and 12th (3)
SMU 24th and 28th (29)

Virginia 26th and 21st (16)
Arizona 26th and 21st (22)
BYU 30th and 17th (11)
Old Dominion 31st and 23rd (39)

Take out the Heisman QB years and LSU is outside of top 50 average.

Just makes me wonder what QBs he will be targeting to get here for next year.

I trust that he has a plan. There should be many QBs that will be interested. That is what is good about him taking the job now. He can start working on fixing this offense, both personnel and scheme, right away.

It’s going to be so fun watching an offense with tempo

Lane Kiffin will not be fixing LSU's offense. He will be INSTALLING his proven plan into our Tigers' offense.
This ain't our Coach's first rodeo, but this rodeo will now become his finest rodeo for years to come. Go Tigers!

Not to hijack the thread, but this has to be the worst offense in the history of the football program right?

Even Hallman and Dinardo teams had decent offense. It was the defense that was bad on those teams.
Without looking I would say it was the worst LSU scoring offense national ranking since at least the 1950s if not the worst ever.
