I’m expecting great results, but even if it doesn’t play out in line with my wildest dreams — this was masterful work.

I owe Verge Ausberry 1000 apologies over my initial reaction to his appointment.

That’s my AD.

Verge nailed it. Did exactly what he does, didn't make it about himself, just did his job

Woodward would have never agreed to hire Kiffin. Hopefully, Verge doesn’t meddle with the football team like Woodward supposedly did.

I disagree. The ball is on Lane’s court to produce as we expect him to, but this is likely the best poach job in college sports history.

He did his part.

I've followed LSU since the 70s and there has never been this kind of near-universal approval of a coaching hire among fans. If Lane tanks, there can't be any finger pointing this time.

This can’t be stated enough. I’m trying to think of a parallel, Bear to Bama from A&M? I don’t think he had yet achieved legendary status at the time Bama hired him though. That’s why I don’t think Lane willingly leaves LSU unless it’s for the NFL. These types of poachings rarely work.

Don’t get ahead of yourself there. I am as excited as anyone but if Lane tanks, as someone else said, we will be looking to take Verge out back of the woodshed. Those who accuse us of being a fickle fan base are correct. Win, and we love you. Lose, and we’ll run you out on a rail.

The only thing that remotely compares is TX poaching Schloss from A&M, but in football I don’t think there is a comp tbh.

This applies to coaches, sure. When your AD goes out and gets the guy everyone wants, in a year where he could plausibly/statistically win a natty — your AD is doing a good job lmao.
