Not really. The likely existence of literal space aliens isn’t even strange anymore. So personally I don’t find this kinda thing overly strange at all.

What if they were to conclude that the University has a markedly better chance in the potential for winning the rare national championship with Kiffen coaching “his” team and perhaps averting (or at least postponing) some of that negativity and begrudging and of course distraction that typically follows in the immediate wake of a coaching change. Just spitballing.
