Silly premise, but a fun book. Plenty of hack and slash, humor, and unique mythology.

The premise is essentially groups of monster killing mercs, referred to as "bands", tour around doing jobs and living a rock star life. They even have silly rock band names like Saga or Jain and the Silk Arrows. Many of the older mercs still live off of their old fame (like 1970s bands). Newer bands fight in arenas instead of doing the real tours. One of the older guys has to reunite his bandmates to save his daughter. The POV character is Clay "Slowhand" Cooper, who is kind of the good guy of the band.

This has been on my Audible “wish list” FOREVER.

May need to finally give it a shot.

Yeah, it's a very good book, the sequel book is excellent as well. Been taking him forever to get the third out.

Haven't gotten to it yet, but I think it follows the daughter of one of the Saga characters (trying to keep it unspoilerly).

I really enjoyed this book. I'd forgotten there was a sequel. I'm going to have to check it out.

I almost started this but I saw that it was a planned trilogy and the author has been struggling with the 3rd book. I'm to the point where I'm not starting a fantasy series until I know the guy can finish it.

This one is a little different in that you can read it as a standalone perfectly fine. I really liked it and have not and don't plan to read the sequel. This one is really good though.

I'm with you on waiting till authors finish series these days. But with this series each book is pretty much it's own self contained story. You'd lose nothing reading the first two even if he never finishes the third one.

I called it a sequel cause it technically is, but it really follows the daughter of one of the main characters in the first book, with characters from the first just being background characters here or there.

Awesome awesome awesome book. The sequel was really good too. Not as good as the first but still a solid read.

Definitely a good read. It's funny, because (similar to DCC) if you explained the premise of the book to me... there is probably a 0% change of me choosing to read it on my own. With DCC, enough people sang its praises that I finally picked it up. With this book, I had no clue what I was expecting and just randomly grabbed it at the library (back before I did Kindle). Once I started reading it, I probably would have quit except... I'd already checked it out from the library and needed to read SOMETHING. I ended up really enjoying the book... but damn.. dose the premise sound hokey.

I read this from a recommendation when I Googled “books that will make you laugh out loud”. It lived up to that hype. Depending on your sense of humor, it’s a pretty damn funny book.
